Chapter 10- Goodbye
Hermione's POV
We enjoyed another ride in the time machine. The small amount of time we spent with the Doctor changed my entire perspective on objects with authenticity such as his. My mind broadened for the better and I couldn't wait to read about the topic. Now I'd have more trivia to tell Ron and Harry.
The Doctor checked a television that showed our outside surroundings. "Yep! Right where you left off." he said before swinging the doors of his blue box open wide. A forest was revealed; we had returned safely to the Forbidden Forest.
Twigs snapped beneath our feet, yet we could also hear another sound. A familiar voice... We peeked through the trees and were just able to make out Hagrid. He seemed to be calling for someone, as if he were trying to find them. That's when I realized.
"Hagrid's looking for us!" I announced as the metaphorical lightbulb appeared over my head. "How long how we been? Days, weeks? Please don't say months." I asked the Doctor desperately as I grasped the seriousness of the situation. We had been gone for a long amount of time. What about the people that were looking for us, wondering where we'd gone off to? Would they believe us?
The Doctor surprised me with his answer. "Only two minutes." My jaw dropped a considerable amount of inches. "But-" I tried to stutter when the Doctor shushed me. Hagrid had recognized my voice. "Hermione?" he shouted into the forest. We didn't have much time for goodbyes.
The Doctor realized this and informed us, "If you ever want to have another adventure, just give me a shout." he winked suspiciously. Harry and Ron nodded happily in agreement before I stopped them. "It was fun, but we can't afford to do this anymore. What if we go missing for longer than two seconds? The risks are too high." I insisted firmly.
The boys seemed disappointed, but I stood by my decision. The Doctor respected it by saying, "I completely understand." We all stood there for a few seconds, saying nothing. It wasn't until Hagrid could be heard, calling louder than before, that the Doctor said, "Well, I guess this is goodbye." There was a touch of sadness in his voice.
"It was nice to meet you." the woman, Donna, exclaimed as she held out her hand to shake. "It was loads of fun." Harry said excitedly, while Ron simply replied, "Yeah."
We watched as the two time travelers stepped into the mysterious blue box. With a dazzling flash of light, it began to disappear. Ron, Harry, and I bade our new friends goodbye as the TARDIS faded slowly. Once it was completely gone, we turned to each other.
"Ther ye are!" We spun around to find Hagrid, looking slightly worried. "I was wondering where yeh'd got off ter." Harry and Ron glanced at me for an explanation. "We thought we saw a runaway blast ended skrewt. Is class about to start?" I hoped my explanation would suffice.
"Yer right on time!" Hagrid replied as he led us back to his hut. It was hard to stop thinking about our recent adventure with the Doctor. With time and new adventures, however, it would soon be stored away into the back of our minds for a rainy day. The Doctor would never be forgotten, we determined, as we carried on with life at Hogwarts.
