   JUSTINS POV:

My muscles relaxed as I looked at the hoop. Everything went quiet and for this short moment it was just the court and I. I like to call this time of day "the calm before the storm". I looked at the orange ball as I raised my hands and prepared to take the shot. Everything was peaceful. All that could be heard were the occasional car driving down the street next to the court and the sound the ball made when it went straight in, without touching the rim. Airball, perfect shot.

I jogged from my place to grab the basketball again and I dribbled back to my previous shooting spot. This is what I liked about shooting alone. I had all control, something I wouldn't normally have if I were at the house or around other people. I loved the quiet, I admired it. I wished for it stick around more often.

I felt sweat running down my back and forehead as I kept dribbling and running and shooting. For 45 minutes, it was just me and silence. Of course, since nothing good lasts for a long time, this all ended when I heard Dale clapping behind me as I scored a lay-up. I lifted my arm and checked the time. 5:00PM. Yep, my time had ended. Dale always came by to pick me up after football practice. It was like having your own personal alarm; if he didn't come, I would keep playing.

"I still don't get why you don't join the school's team" Dale said. He grabbed the ball as he made his way into the court and walked towards me.

"You know why" I put my hands up and motioned for him to pass the ball. I made my way to the bench beside the court where I always put my things. I felt the cold November air hit my body as I picked up my bag and walked next to Cole, who waited for me at the end of the court.

"Ready for hell?" I asked Cole when I reached him.

"Oh, you know it" He sarcastically said. We made our way around the court and into the sidewalk, walking away from the court. We walked in silence, as we always do, contemplating what was about to happen. It always happened, most days. There was no need to talk about it, for we both knew how it was, how it felt. When we did talk about it, we didn't say anything the other hadn't thought about already.

As time went by we neared the big house. It looked peaceful from the outside, and the irony of this always made me laugh. I think Cole thinks the same because he never makes a comment when he sees me smiling as it comes to view. It's not a happy smile. Not at all. It's more of a smile of disappointment.

The front lawn was cut to perfection. The flowers that were planted closer to the house, on each side of the door, were beautiful. Red and white. The red front door against the white walls and silver framed windows made the house look alive. Cole and I made our way to the front door crossing the driveway. When we reached the door, Cole stalled to find the house keys that he always put in his bag. He looked angry, but I can't blame him. I took a moment to look at him. Cole's dark brown hair was all over the place, cut short on the sides and left long on top. His eyebrows were drawn together creating a crease in between. He looked deep in thought. He looked up to me and his eyes met mine. He held my gaze for a quick second and it striked me to see how dark his brown eyes have gotten. It's almost as if I couldn't point out the difference between his eye color and his pupil.

"Hold your temper and don't talk back." he said as he always did before he put his keys in the front doors lock and turned it. He opened the door quickly and stepped in, me behind him.

I turned, once I was inside, and looked outside one last time before I closed the door, blocking all brightness from the outside and leaving me in the middle of a dull, almost forced, light. I sighted. I turned on the heels of my shoes and quietly made my way across the living room. The brown couches looked almost new given to the fact nobody ever used them. The TV, against the white walls, hasn't been used either. This made me wonder why these people even bought it.
