I know this first part is not so good but I promise it is going to become more interesting with the next chapters.
Your opinion matters a lot to me so pretty please leave me your thoughts on the chapter and the whole idea of this story in the comments.
Thank you.
Enjoy the read!************************************
Anything can happen when an ordinary girl like me, a student in a small town, gets an internship as a secretary in the UK Parliament.
Secretary isn't anything outstanding you might say, but it was a start, especially for someone willing to study the British culture and get a job as close as possible to their politics.
I can't say the interest for British culture came out of the blue. I have it in part thanks to my idol, Colin Firth. And in part out of a forever respect and love for the sweetest queen on earth, Elisabeth II. When I got the acceptance letter from the parliament my first thought was that I might get to meet her. My second thought was to call my best friend, Viv, and tell her everything.-The impossible have just happened. It happened. I got the letter.
-Sorry? I don't understand a thing you say. What letter?
-The internship. I just got the acceptance letter! I'm going to work in the Parliament. I can't believe it!
-Omg! Congrats honey!
-Thanks.
-I know how much you wanted this and let me tell you that is truly well deserved.
-Oh no, is way too great a thing for me. I just hope I'll do good and not disappoint the people who chose me instead of the others.
-You'll do great. As usual. Just believe in yourself and everything will be okay.
-You're right.
Imagine how it'll be to meet the queen. I might forget all about etiquette and hug her.
-Maybe you could do that in particular. In public it would look bad for her.
-True. Maybe I will in particular. Having tea with her would be the best thing ever.
-For those who like tea, yes.
-Well, I love tea.
-When do you leave for London?
-Tomorrow.
-What? That's so soon. I hoped to see you before you leave.
-Why don't you come with me? You can take a few weeks sick leave from work. Just make something up.
-I can't. Or not yet at least. I will come maybe in a few weeks.
-Well, better than not at all.
-You'll be there the whole summer, right?
-Yeah. 3 full months and full time job. I might be quite busy during the weeks. But weekends are free.
Come next weekend.
-I'll try to. Can't make any promise.
-Okay. I have to book my plane ticket and pack now. Talk to you later!
-Bye, Andy!I was going yo leave early the next morning and I couldn't think of anything else the whole day. O was already starting to imagine how I'll greet the queen when I meet her.
The day passed quickly with me daydreaming through it and tomorrow morning came.
I was about to call Viv and let her know I was leaving the house but I was interrupted by a knock on the door.-Surprise!
-Viv?! You said you couldn't stop by.
-You can forgive a little white lie if it is for a good cause, can't you?
-Of course, silly! I'm glad you came. Will you come to the airport with me?
-Yes, that's what I came for by car. I'll take you there and not leave until I make sure you're safely seated in that plane.
-You're the best! The goodbye was tearful even if we weren't parting for long. The flight to London was quicker than I thought and I was going to check in at the hotel. I had no time to enjoy the charming UK capital yet as I was expected at the Parliament that very afternoon. I took a shower, changed and tried to relax, repeating to myself that everything was going to be okay.
I got in a cab and made my way to there, more anxious with every second passing.
When I finally arrived I was ready to pass out but I had to pull myself together and walk on. Once inside a smiling secretary greeted me. That was about to become my job too.-Hello! I'm Jennifer. But you can call me Jen. You must be Andrea.
-Hi! Yes. Well, call me Andy.
-Pleasure to meet you. Please, follow me. The HR recruiter wants to speak to you.
***
-Andrea, you're early. We like that on here. Better early than late, keep that in mind. I'm Jack Baines.
-Hello, Mr. Baines!
-Please, call me Jack. Are you ready to start?
-Ready and willing to. I hope I won't let you down.
-With that enthusiasm and Jen's help you won't. She will trach you all you have to know. Back to work!
***
-He might seem crazy but he's just dedicated to the job. And wants any job done quickly around here.
-What is our job, exactly?
-For the begging you will only be greeting people and showing them their way around. You'll find that easy by using a map at first.
Beside that, the job requires a lot of phone calls, arranging meetings and so on. You'll get used to these too. Nothing too hard.
-Great, I can't wait to start!
-Take the desk in front of me and call me whenever you have a problem.
I'll show you around when our shift ends.
-Thank you.So went my first day on the job. There were only a few people I had to greet. The rest of the day I watched Jen taking a countless number of calls.
Then she showed me around as she promised and that took well 3hours to see everything and keep it in mind.
Back in my hotel room I was going to call Viv.-Hey! How did it go?
-It's easier than I thought. At least so far. There is this secretary, Jen, who's showing me what to do. She's really nice.
-I'm glad. I hope you get to meet the royal family soon. Send my love to the queen, will you?
-If I get lucky enough, I will.
Now I'd better hit the sack. Good night!
-Good night!************************************
The second chapter will get to the point of the story, I promise. I'll try to update it (hopefully) tomorrow or (certainly) Monday.
