Chapter Nineteen: Level E Attack(s)

Scarlet's POV

Damn it, I think. I lost the group.

As the wind brushes past me I look hastily from side to side. I don't see anyone who looks like an ally but I do feel the aura of countless Level E vampires around me. I hiss under my breath and ready Blood and Fire at my sides.

I suddenly hear the yell of a bloodthirsty monster and I stop in my tracks, turn, and stab a Level E in the heart with Blood. I hear moments of agonizing screaming as the Level E has its last moments on Earth.

"You.... bastard!" it rasps.

I grin, "Goodbye."

I slash Fire at it and the monster instantly turns to ash. I stare at the pile of ash before turning and continuing on the trail I was just on.

There's so many of them, I think. This isn't good.

I hear footsteps coming towards my direction and I ready Blood and Fire in front of me. A Level E emerges bearing its fangs and claws.

Slash.

A pile of ash blows away with the wind.

I stop in my tracks and a grim expression spreads across my face. I feel them all around me. So many dark auras. I sigh and ready for one of the biggest fights I've ever encountered.

This is the first time I've encountered this many without someone by my side, I think. Bring it on.

Monsters step out of the brush slowly and look at me with bloodthirsty eyes. I grin at them but they don't even flinch.

"Blood...." one rasps. "Give me your blood!"

It lunges at me and I quickly dodge to the side. I stab it in the chest with Fire but I hear the pounding of countless Level E's running towards me. The one before me turns to ash and I hastily ready my weapons.

There's too many, I think. Shit.

I block one of the Level E's blows with my katanas and hiss under my breath. I suddenly gasp when I feel a hand on my shoulder that pulls me back, making me drop my weapons out of shock.

"Get your hands off of me!" I yell as I struggle in the Level E's grasp.

They all grin at me and I feel like screaming at the top of my lungs. I'm not that weak, however, I won't give up without a fight.

This would be a very pathetic way to die, I think.

As I continue struggling I feel the heavy breathing as a Level E bears its fangs towards my throat. I won't be able to escape. Even if I do manage to get free of this Level E's grasp there are still countless waiting in line.

"Your knight in shining armor has arrived," I hear a cheery voice say above me. I look up and see Nathan free falling down towards me. He lands next to the Level E who has me in its grasp before he pierces it in the heart with one of his daggers.

"Nathan!" I exclaim.

"Hello, princess," he winks.

"Don't call me that," I say sternly as I grab my weapons.

"Looks like this is.... what.... the third time I've saved you?" Nathan asks jokingly.

"Shut up," I hiss. "Just help me with these bastards."

Nathan grins as I just realized I asked for his help. At that moment I didn't care so I just look away hastily and prepare for battle. As I dash towards the crazed vampires I hear Nathan speak.

"Of course, Scar."

I simply roll my eyes.

Sakura's POV

We need to find Kagura, I think. Before it's too late.

I am leading the group on our search for Kagura with Zero by my side. I hear the muttering voices of those behind me and I smile slightly for a second.

"Zero," I say. "Thank you for looking out for my sister. I'm sure she was a handful."

"You know it," Zero says with a chuckle. "I--I really did miss you."

I look up at Zero as I feel my cheeks flush a rosy tone. He smiles widely and I feel our hands entwine once more. I want to say something, even though now wasn't the time. I want to say just three simple words more than anything. But I'm a vampire, surely he has a distaste for me. I don't want to say something only for the result to be heartbreaking. Luckily I suddenly see my sister at my side with a grin on her face.

"You two are you cute together!" she whispers in my ear.

My now slightly pink cheeks flush bright red.

"Yuuki!" I exclaim.

I realize that I just yelled that. I cower in my place and I see a smile appear on her face.

Yuuki runs behind us and whispers to the members of the Night Class something and I hear them all snicker, even Mikou. She suddenly runs up to me and hands me something, a bracelet to be exact.

"Here's Sunlight and I think we should split up," she says hastily. "I'll head off with Mikou, Naomi and Claude will be a pair, as will Mika and Mine, and you and Zero!"

"Wh--" Before I can respond everyone rushed off into their designated groups. All of which are looking for Kagura and fighting off the hordes of Level E's as they do so. I am just standing there with Zero next to me, dumbfounded.

"That was odd," Zero says, muttering.

"You got that right," I say. "I wonder why they--"

I suddenly feel an arm wrap around me and I look up to see Zero. I take this as an opportune moment to get something off my chest that I've wanted to tell him for quite some time.

"Zero, I want to tell you something...."

Zero looks down at me with his gentle expression. I love it when he looks at me that way.

"Zero, I have--"

I hear russling in the brush and a Level E pops out. I quickly turn Sunlight from a bracelet to a dazzling rapier and stab it in the heart, making a pile of ash seconds later.

Why now? I think.

I hear a Level E coming up from behind me but before I can attack it a gunshot rings through the air. I turn and see smoke coming out of Bloody Rose's barrel. I look up at Zero and see a grin plastered on his face.

"Ready?" he asked.

I nodded. "You bet."

Zero and I then dashed off together, hoping to find the Pureblood who started this whole mess.
