"Settle down with meCover me up
Cuddle me in
Lie down with me
And hold me in your arms
And your heart's against my chest
Your lips pressed to my neck
I'm falling for your eyes
But they don't know me yet
And with a feeling I'll forget
I'm in love now
Kiss me like you wanna be loved
You wanna be loved
You wanna be loved
This feels like falling in love
Falling in love
Falling in love"
- Kiss Me, Ed Sheeran
The kiss changed everything. In a matter of seconds, Phil knew that his lips would never again touch another soul. It was as if he had been struck by a bolt of lightning. His entire body tingled, and his breath hitched. Dan was kissing him. Their lips met briefly at first. Dan pulled back in surprise, his brown eyes wide and beautiful. He bit his bottom lip and leaned in a second time, holding his lips against Phil's for several moments this time. Dan breathed softly against Phil's cheek, and Phil was certain that he was about to collapse.
First kisses are often awkward. But for Dan and Phil, this contact was anything but awkward. It was nothing less than the confirmation of unnamed feelings. Phil knew it, and he was positive that Dan knew it too. They looked at one another for a long time, their faces just inches apart.
"Dan." Phil smiled and exhaled deeply. "That was...that was amazing."
Dan smiled, revealing two perfect dimples. "It really was."
"What was that?" Phil asked out loud, more to himself than to Dan.
Dan leaned in for more, and this time he wrapped his arms around Phil's neck pulling them closer. Phil thought that his heart might actually burst from his chest. Dan's lips were soft and full. They continued to kiss, and the energy between them started to change. Each time they met, they lingered a little longer. The space between them disappeared slowly, and there was no mistaking the feeling behind their kisses.
"Daddy?" Dan breathed two syllables into Phil's mouth, the second higher than the first.
Phil inhaled sharply, and he nearly buckled under the word. He had done a lot of reading, and understood the gravity of the situation. Dan was asking Phil to be his person. Dan was putting everything on the line by putting this into the air between them. It was rare for a Neko to be so bold. Dan may have lived timidly in Cornwall, but Phil's love and care empowered him. Dan rubbed his left cheek against Phil's right.
"Kitten," Phil replied. He looked deep into Dan's eyes. He never felt so sure of anything in his life. "My baby."
Dan blushed and gripped Phil's shoulders, burying his face into his chest. His ears fluttered and his tail quivered with joy. What Phil didn't know was that this was the first time that Dan had kissed anyone on his own accord. Up until now, every kiss, every form of affection was contracted by a master. Dan had not associated these things with love, only with obligation. For the first time in his life, Dan gave himself willingly. Somehow, the kisses brought all the tingly feelings into focus. Dan decided that this must be what it felt like to love and to be loved.
