Gilbert wasn't at school for the rest of the week.

A part of Adelaide wanted to go visit him, but she knew that he needed space and his father had probably grown more ill.

Friday had finally come, and Adelaide was excited for the weekend, strictly because she wanted to stay in bed and catch up on sleep.

George had informed Alice and Adelaide that he would be staying another week with his relatives, and Adelaide almost cried tears of joy.

Alice stayed the same. She would sleep all day, and Adelaide continued to see her take the pills, but she was too busy with school and homework to ask her about it.

Adelaide had the entire week to ponder over her moment with Gilbert. She knew that she wanted to kiss him, but the insecure side of her took over and stopped her heart from making the decision.

I may possibly like Gilbert Blythe.

Adelaide wrote down in a journal after doodling small pictures of flowers. She was supposed to be finishing a book for school, but it was boring and nobody else in the classroom was doing their work, anyway.

The bell rang, signaling that school was over for the day, and Adelaide started to pack up.

"Adelaide, could I talk to you before you leave?" Mr. Phillips asked, and Billy Andrews turned to grin at Adelaide.

"Oh, Adelaide, are you Prissy's replacement? I would not want you cheating on Gilbert!"

"Shut your mouth, Billy, before I do it for you." Adelaide spit at the boy and walked towards the front of the room.

Mr. Phillips grimaced at the girl and picked up a few books off of his desk. He stacked the up and handed them towards Adelaide.

"I need you to take these to Gilbert Blythe's home for me. He informed me that he does not know when he will be back to school."

Adelaide nodded and accepted the books from her teacher. Of course he had to pick her to take the books to Gilbert.

She went to the door of the schoolhouse and opened it while trying to hold Gilbert's and her own books at the same time. Adelaide rolled her eyes when she saw the snow covered ground. She made a mental note to wear a jacket the next morning.

Adelaide closed the door behind her and ran through the snow in the direction of the Blythe house.

•••

It had taken longer to get there than she had presumed it would. The snow had gotten deeper and the temperature had dropped at least five degrees from when she left the schoolhouse. Her hands, still tightly wrapped around the books, were bright pink and shaking.

Adelaide almost jumped out of pure joy when she saw the house through the field. Her feet immediately moved faster at the sight of it, and she was soon knocking on the door.

It's when she had to knock again that Adelaide realized she would have to face the boy who she refused to kiss. Her face grew a look of horror and she set the books down on the step before slowly backing away. Turning around so she could go down the front stairs, Adelaide screamed when she collided with a warm body.

"What are you doing here?" Gilbert asked the blonde girl with a tight voice. She looked up to see him, with small snowflakes resting atop his curly hair. His eyes didn't have their usual gleam in them, though.

"I'm sorry, I just came to drop off your school books. I should really be going now." Adelaide stuttered as her face tinged with pink.

Gilbert looked at the broken girl in front of him, and sighed when he saw her shaking hands and snow covered boots.

"Come in, I have some tea made."

(^^literally me rn when i post the next few chapters)

"No, it's alright. I need to get back h-" Gilbert cut her off.

"Adelaide, for once, can you just accept somebody's help?" Adelaide widened her eyes at his sudden outburst.

"Alright, I'll come in." She softly said and followed the boy back up into his home.

Gilbert motioned to the table and disappeared into the kitchen. Adelaide let out a deep breath of anticipation and annoyance.

He returned to the dining room with two cups and a pot of tea. He set it down and sat down along with Adelaide.

"So, I-" She started, but stopped when she realized she didn't know what to say. How did one start a conversation like this?

"I'm sorry, Gilbert. I didn't kiss you because I am to afraid to face my feelings, and I know you probably don't even like me, but you are an amazing person, and I am not-" Adelaide ranted. Gilbert smiled at how cute she was.

"Adelaide, trust me, it's fine. There are no hard feelings." Gilbert explained to her.

"Then I hope it is okay if I do this." Adelaide said and leaned over the table. She softly kissed him, and smiled when he kissed back. The two pulled away, and green eyes met brown.

"You truly are wondrous, Adelaide." Gilbert smiled at the girl who had turned his life around.
