So, some of you are probably very confused. I would be lmao my writing is SHIT.

This will be a short summary to explain Alice's story throughout this book. Also, I just wanted to say that i feel awful for writing the last chapter but like I said, I had this plot in my head since the start, so I felt that it was detrimental to Adelaide's story. I hope you guys understand. This is my first "actual" book I've written, and I never realized how much the author can come to like a character.

SUMMARY:

Alice King's husband was murdered in cold blood in the spring time after being beaten to death in an alleyway. She and her daughter, Adelaide, were heartbroken. Most people process grief in different ways, and Alice chose to completely ignore it. She pushed the memories of her husband out of her mind, whilst accidentally blocking her daughter out also.

Alice started taking a prescription pill that the town doctor prescribed to her for depression. She was told to take one a day, but quickly developed the habit to abuse them, taking multiple doses a day. Alice would make up excuses to the doctor to get more bottles of the pills.

Alice did not notice Adelaide's change in attitude. Her young daughter had begun to decline in social activity, and became moodier. Adelaide had an incident in her schoolhouse with another student, forcing her to move to another school nearby. Alice barely payed attention to what had happened.

After Adelaide had been in her new school for a little while, Alice met a man named George Monroe. He seemed nice and friendly at first, so she decided that maybe he could make her mental health improve and force her to become a better person. The outcome is the opposite. Adelaide dislikes him, so the mother daughter relationship becomes even more shattered. George starts to show abusive tendencies only after he marries Alice, after he showed them the luxurious life he had.

George started hitting Alice a while before Adelaide, but Alice was much too timid to speak out about it. She was still very traditional, seeing that maybe this was how a husband was supposed to treat his wife. When she finally found out that he was also abusing Adelaide, it was the last straw. It was one thing to hurt her, but also her daughter? Alice's drug addiction had met its peak, so bad that she had started to go through a bottle a week.

In a rash decision, Alice decides to get rid of George for good. She poisoned him- the easiest way she could think of- and somehow got rid of his body. It was a temporary solution. She thought that after she rid of him, her problems would disappear. That proved to be false. Alice continued to suffer from depression as well as other undiagnosed mental illnesses. She put on a smile and made it seem like everything was alright; a trait she had passed down to her daughter.

Unfortunately, as Alice's life progressed, she developed suicidal tendencies. The weight of taking someone else's life had been placed upon her shoulders, and she just couldn't take it anymore. She had made a final decision that she would end her life with an overdose, but failed as she accidentally spilled them down the staircase. Alice knew Adelaide would soon be home, so forgot the pills and took to the bedroom where she knew George's prized possession, his gun, would be sitting on the top shelf of their closet. She quickly wrote a note to her beloved daughter explaining everything.

Adelaide wasn't supposed to walk in. That was never in the plan. Alice never wanted to hurt her, and seeing her daughter reach out for her in that last moment hurt more than any pain George had inflicted upon her. She knew in that moment that her life could never get back to the way it used to be, and that she was better off dead.

hope this cleared things up. love you all if you are ever struggling with anything please take the time to message me, i believe that talking to other people always helps.
