It was hard for Courtney to away from her fiancée, Shayne, but right now he was away on some secret mission for the Airforce.
She last saw him 3 months ago, when he proposed the night before he left. It wasn't planned, they didn't even know if they should stay together, but Shayne proposed. Now, it couldn't feel more right.
They didn't know when he was coming back, but they would get married right away. Courtney had already bought a white dress.
She lived alone in his apartment, working as a film teacher at a high school. Everyone knew her story, and everyone pitied her.
Poor Miss Miller, waiting alone for her pilot fiancée to come back to her.
The only person who almost understood was Mr. Sohinki, the history teacher. His wife was always traveling for her ballet career. Courtney had meet Mari a few times, and she was super nice.
However, there was not a looming threat of death over Mr. Sohinki  and his ballerina wife.
Courtney did her best not to think about that threat, but for some reason everyone, especially adults, loves to bring it up.
Someone do her students told her it was romantic, some told her she was silly.
A few parents joked she was like the movie Pearl Harbor, and wasn't really true and also very depressing.
The gym teacher and football coach, Coach Bereta, was especially nice to her. His wife was very kind to her, and Courtney was grateful whenever they rescued her from one of said awkward conversations.
"You coming to the game tonight?" Coach Bereta asked when he saw Courtney in the teacher's lounge.
"I don't know, but my students certainly want me to."
"You should come. It'll be good for you to get out of that apartment."
She smiled, "I'll think about it, but right now I have a group of Sophomores just dying to learn about the wonders of film."
Courtney pondered his offer through the day. Maybe she did spend too much time alone, but that was in hope Shayne would call her, which he hasn't been able to for the past two and a half weeks.
She could sit with the odd yet kind janitor David Moss, who the kids nicknamed "Lasercorn" off of a rumor that he had a tattoo of a unicorn with a laser on his back.
As she last class was dismissed, she decided to go.
What's the worst that could happen? If Shayne does call, she could escape into her classroom for silence.
The crowd was crazy, even during warm ups.
She sat with the other teachers, waiting for the game to start. After warm-ups were finished and the national anthem was over, nothing happened.
Principal Hecox walked into the field with a microphone, "Hi, everybody! Thanks for coming out to the game, tonight!" Courtney clapped with the cheering crowd, "Before we start, I would like our very own film teacher Miss Courtney Miller to join to me on the field?"
What?
It's not like it was her birthday or anything.
She sheepishly joined Principal Hecox on the field.
"As many of you know," he continued, "For the past three months, Miss Miller's fiancée has been gone defending our country, but, Miss Miller-"
The crowd started cheering, but it wasn't for Principal Hecox.
She turned around,
Shayne.
He was standing there in his military garb with a bag slung over his shoulder.  He smiled, and dropped the bag. They raced towards each other.
Courtney jumped onto him, her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist. His strong arms grasped around her. He buried his face in her hair.
"I love you," she cried.
"I love you, too," Shayne whispered, placing a shakey kiss on her cheek.
"Can we please get married now?" She grinned as he set her down, but still kept a hold on her hands.
"I thought you'd never ask."

I know this one was a but different but I hope you like it!
