The Smosh cast and crew were spending three days at the Mobli Beach House for the first ever Smosh Summer Games.
Courtney had only been at Smosh for a few months, and had known Shayne for a few weeks. She only really knew Olivia, but she was looking forward to getting to know everyone better.
They had all been so nice to her; she was going to return the favor. She was sharing a room with the Mari and Olivia. She picked the bed by the wall and began unpacking.
Joe knocked on the open door,"Hey kid. We're gonna start shooting in 20 minutes on the beach. Wear a swim suit, or nothing. I don't really care." Courtney rolled her eyes, quickly changing before Mari and Olivia came back into the room.
"I can't believe we have to share a bathroom with three boys." Olivia complained,"It's gonna be so stinky!"
"Which boys?" Courtney asked, trying not to smile, "I think I heard its going to be just Ian and Anthony."
"And Shayne," Olivia added.
"I'm willing to bet that Shayne is the cleanest of those three," Mari joked.
"I need to use the bathroom, so I guess I'll find out."
"You want us to wait for you?" Mari asked as she pulled her long hair into a bun.
"Nah, that's ok, I'll see you down there."She wandered to the bathroom the six of them would be sharing. She quickly did her business, wanting to get down to the beach as soon as possible.
Before she opened the door to leave, she heard Ian and Shayne talking.
"So how are you liking the gang so far? Ian asked.
"They're incredible, they all are. Seriously, Ian, I am so thankful for this opportunity."
"Yes, of course, you deserve it, man."
"Hey, uh, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure."
"Are there any rules against dating coworkers here."
"We would prefer for cast member not to date. Why? Someone catch your eye?
Courtney gasped. It would stink if he ( someone she presumes to be straight) had a crush on Olivia or Mari, since they both had long term boyfriends.
This was a point in time where Sarah hadn't been hired, so they were the only three girls. However, that did not click in Courtney's head.
"Doesn't matter," Shayne replied, quickly changing the topic of conversation.
Courtney opened the door once she knew it was safe, "Hey, ground rules, boys, put down the seat and spray something."
Shayne smiled at her and retorted with something witty.
Ian glanced between them. They seemed awfully flirty to Ian, and that's saying something because everyone in Smosh flirts with each other. That night, when everyone was tired and sunburnt from shooting, Courtney was in the bathroom, going through her rigorous skin care routine. She was almost done when someone knocked.
"Come in."
It Shayne.
"Oh, hey, I just need to brush my teeth, but I can-"
"It's cool, dude," Courtney grinned, "I'm almost done away."
Shayne shyly shuffled next to her. She looked so cute in her pajamas. That would be creepy to say, wouldn't it? He thought she was cute from the moment he met her.
She smiled brightly and even took him around the office and introduced him to everyone.
That same beautiful smile that greeted him every morning...but no dating coworkers. He can still admire her from afar at least, which is still pretty creepy.
He felt sunburnt and tired and sick but couldn't help but smile when she wished him goodnight.
"See you tomorrow, Court," he said, "Get some rest."
"I'll try," she sighed, "Olivia and Mari are both on the phone with their boyfriends."
"Well, I guess we're in the same boat because I have the same problem with Ian and Anthony and their girlfriends."
"At least the tv is probably free. Wanna watch something?" She asked, mindlessly pulling her hair into a pony tail.
"Sure," he answered as they started walking down the hall, "What kind of shows do you like?"
"Right now I've been really loving Rick and Morty."
"I love that show!"A few episodes in and a bag of popcorn later, Courtney slowly fell asleep, leaning her head on Shayne's shoulder.
Without thinking, he placed his arm around her. It felt so natural, so normal. Shayne paused for a moment to see what she would do.
Instead of the weird scenario Shayne had planned out in his head, she just exhaled softly and scored closer.
He turned the tv off and pulled a blanket off the floor to wrap around them before joining Courtney in slumber."Wake up!"
The two flinched awake.
Mari, the morning person to end all morning persons, was smiling in front of them.
"Wake up before everyone sees you and freaks out!" She ripped the blanket away, "Courtney , this is why you never came to bed last night?!"
"Jeesh, sorry mom."
"It's fine, just," she sighed, "Please get a move on. It'll be better for everyone if no one sees this."
Courtney smiled at Shayne and whispered a thank you before Mari whisked her away.
"Look, I know that might have seen harsh," Mari said as she lead back to the room, "But Sohinki and I nearly lost our jobs when this first started because we fell asleep in the office one night."
"Really?"
"Yeah. These people are not messing around."
"Did you and Sohinki-"
"No, but that's not the point. It's some weird HR thing, ok? I just want you to be kept away from all that drama."When Shayne stumbled into his room, Ian and Anthony were still asleep. He trudged over to his bed and collapsed. Why was he so stupid to lead himself on like that? But, could he let someone as incredible as Courtney go?
These thoughts plagued his brain as the day continued.
Nighttime rolled around, and Shayne found Courtney sitting on the porch steps.
"Hey," he said.
"Hey."
"Can I sit next to you?"
"Sure."
Shayne lowered himself down, still having no idea what he was going to say, "You can have the couch tonight."
"What?"
"I'll bear Ian and Anthony. You can have the couch to yourself."
"Usually sleeping on a couch isn't apart of a romantic gesture, but I'll take it."
They grinned, enjoying the brief moment of happy silence.
"Shayne, um, I just-"
"Don't," he said, "Please, I don't want this to-"
"Me neither."
"...Good."
"...So what now?"
They glanced shyly at each other.
"Let's be content as friends."
Courtney smirked, "I think I can handle that."
"Good, because I expect to be coworkers for 10 to 15 years."
"Then what?"
"...Our friendship will cease to exist."
Courtney squeezed his hand, "I can't wait," she whispered.
Shayne smiled, "Me neither."
