PrinceOfHearts' POV
I left Gra-Kelli's house at around 10:30 that night. Her mom, Ms. Lindsey, said that I could come over the next morning if I wanted too. I was there at 8:30. I knocked on the door and after hearing a couple of footsteps a 14 year old with short blond head stared at me with big eyes. His were dark brown, not blue like Kelli's. The house smelled like baking, like it did yesterday.
"Hey Taylor." Jason said after a beat. "What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to see Kelli."
"Oh I don't think she's awake right no-"
There was a slam in the background. "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ANDY GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!!!" Grace-fuck, Kelli's-voice was as clear as ever.
"KELLI! VOLUME!" Ms. Lindsey said coming to the door. "Hi Taylor. You wanna come inside?"
I did. It had gotten colder over the night and my only hope for warmth were the cups of coffee I was holding. "I brought over some coffee." I handed a cup over. "It's just black, I wasn't too sure..."
"Thank you Taylor." Kelli's mom had thick blond hair just like her, only her eyes were dark like Jason's. "I like putting in sugar myself." she smiled. As she pulled out a container of sugar the oven timer went off. "Kelli!!" She yelled into the house.
"FUCK!! JASON TAKE OVER!!!" Jason, who had been watching my every move raced toward Kelli's room. I wanted to kiss her all over again. That was the Kelli I knew, I knew the Grace side of her. The yelling and fighting. I didn't know who I was holding last night. All I knew is that I wanted to get to know her. The door slammed and Kelli rushed into the kitchen, grabbed an oven mitt, swung open the oven, and pulled out a tray of cupcakes. Thankfully the tray was over a table when she finally saw me, with a gasp she dropped them. Her blond hair was pulled into a messy bun on her head. She wore it to school like that a lot. She was in her pajamas still. I suddenly realized how early I had come over.
"Hey." I tried to smile. There was tension between us, and not the good kind.
"Hi." She blushed like crazy. I wanted to kiss her again. I wanted her to pull me close again. I wanted to feel her against me.
"I, uh, wanted to make sure you were okay."
"Fine." She said softly.
We just looked at each other for a while. Her mom broke the silence. "Kelli I'm going to need you to pick up the perceptions today while I'm at work. And make sure Jason takes his okay?"
"Got it mom. I'll get it when Anya and I take the cupcakes." She had looked down toward the pan and shakily started taking out the cupcakes.
"What are the cupcakes for?" I asked trying to get her to talk to me again.
"Church." She said shyly.
"You go to church?"
"Anya's church."
"Oh that's cool. You know what church it is?"
"JASON HONEY TIME TO GO!!!" Ms. Lindsey shouted.
"I'D RATHER KILL MYSELF!!"
"IT'S AN AMUSEMENT PARK YOU CAN JUST CALL ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS TO MEET YOU THERE AND DITCH DAD!"
Slowly, Jason made his way out of Kelli's room. "You're the coolest mom ever." He said finally. He had a duffle bag slung over his shoulder. He looked with pleading eyes to Kelli. "Are you sure you don't want to come with? We can just hang out in the game section. We don't have to ride anything." Kelli just looked down and shook her head. I wondered what she was thinking about. I wanted to fix it. I wanted her to know that whatever she is thinking about can be fixed. I wondered if she was thinking about me. About the kiss. About last night. Did she sleep? Or did she just lay there like I had all night. She didn't look tired. Maybe she could just hide it well.
