Annabelle's P.o.v.
A few days had passed now and I had been avoiding Thomas, every time someone had mentioned that he was coming over I made myself scarce. I always left kind regards for everyone to pass on to him and made he know I was no longer mad at him. That that was not the reason I was avoiding him. I was sure he knew something was up, I was unfortunately not that great with being subtle. I had tossed and turned all night and I could barely find the energy to eat anything this morning.
I used my fork to push around the food that was on my plate not wanting to consume it, My appetite had disappeared recently. I looked around at everyone else who was eating their meals normally and looked boredly back at my own food. I had hardly touched it. "Annabelle are you okay?" Michael whispered in my ear from the seat beside me, I nodded my head and smiled small. "I think im just going to go back to my room" I whispered barely audible and took my plate out to the kitchen before making my way up to my room where I would sit on my chair and look out the window.
Thomas's P.o.v.
Over the last few days of visiting the family there had always been one person who was noticeably missing, perhaps probably the most important. Annabelle. I had tried to contact her by letter and then again on the phone but it didn't matter what I did she was never home, always out of the house or unavailable. Although she stated through messages back that she was no longer mad at me for what i did there had to be something going on behind the scenes that was unaware of for her to act like this.
I had decided to take it upon myself to find out what was going on, I had taken the day off and began traveling down towards the Garrison where I would be meeting Poll. If anyone was going to tell me what was going on it would be her. Before I could even enter the building Poll walked out and greeted me "Thomas" she nodded "Poll" I stood up tall. "You know why im here..." I began straightening up my coat. "Im assuming you want answers as to why Annabelle is avoiding you?" she half smiled "Trust me Thomas its nothing to be worried about" I felt a tingle in the pit of my stomach.
Butterflies filled my stomach as I awaited for her to continue on "So she has just been busy?" I questioned unsure of what she meant. Polly smiled and placed her hands upon my shoulders and leaned in close "Thomas Annabelle is petrified to tell you this so I will to end everyones misery" she tightened her grip. "Thomas your going to be a father" I held my breath not knowing how to react. Polly had to snap her fingers in my face to snap me out of my daze.
"Why didn't she tell me?" I stared at Polly trying to contain myself "She's afraid your not going to be happy". My heart dropped at the thoughts that must be racing through her mind right now. "Are you happy?" Polly asked peering under my peaked cap. I stared at her not being able to control the tears welling up in my eyes "Where is she?" I spoke calmly and clearly "She's at home right now. Probably in her room" I nodded my head and swiftly turned around and broke out into a run.
Excitement and pure happiness took over as I began sprinting down the backstreets of Birmingham. People moved and pulled others out of my pathway and some of the peaky blinders called out as I ran. A few tear flew down my cheeks as I thought about the pair of us becoming a family. I personally never thought it possible with the life I was leading but now its been made possible and i've been proven wrong. My chest tightened as I passed the Garrison and the boys stopped me and pulled me aside giving me time to catch my breath.
"You just found out?" Michael smiled patting me on the back "You lot knew and didn't tell me!?" I almost yelled back. The lot of them laughed at my cluelessness "Of course we did" Arthur chuckled slapping my back. "Is she still home?" I huffed out hunching over my knees "Sure is just be gentle with her she's a little fragile at the moment" Michael nodded. With that said I continued sprinting down the streets and when I rounded the corned and the Shelby house came into my line of view I instantly smiled and beamed with happiness.
I opened the door quickly and ran inside where Ada and Finn sat on the couch talking to one another. "Thomas!" Ada stood and wrapped her arms around me "Congratulations" she smiled at me before sending me upstairs where Annabelle was hiding. As I reached the stairs I could see Annabelle's body leaning against the railing listening to the sound of my voice as I spoke to Ada. I made sure I walked up the staircase slowly trying not to scare her off. When the pair of us made eye contact I couldn't help but wipe a tear out of my eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me?" she stood from her crouched down position and looked at me. I began walking forwards as she went to turn and run into her room out of fear. I quickly grabbed her hand and held it close to me "because you don't want this" her eyes welled up and something inside me stung "Annabelle that couldn't be further from the truth" I shook my head and slowly walked closer to her. "You know I love you and now we're going to have a family, that I will adore and continue to love just as much as I love you".
"So your happy?" she whispered out slowly at my expression with her glassy eyes "Of course I am, I wish you'd told me earlier though" I smiled pulling her close as a small laughed escaped her lips. Embraced in a heartwarming hug I finally let my tears of happiness fall freely.
