Thomas's P.o.v.
Our talk had gone relatively okay however we were now feeling the full effects of the horrific events that would completely corrupt the world in a few days. I felt as if I were stuck in a spiralling black hole that would only get progressively worse as the time went on. We left the restaurant soon after the talk, both turned off ordering any food. "Tom we're going to be okay" she held my hand tightly almost as if she didn't want to let go in thoughts it would be the last time she would see me again.
We walked down the active street people weaving in and out avoiding coming in contact with the pair of us. The coloured glass windows from the church up ahead threw colour onto the pathway as we approached it. "Can we go inside?" she asked nearing the large detailed doors "Of course" I lead her into the large spacious building and watched her eyes sparkle with awe. "Its so beautiful" she grinned walking off down the centre aisle leaving me to watch her graceful form travel down the walkway she would have walked if we were getting married. Now im unsure we will be able to.
The thought of discouragement making me regret not having the wed earlier. I hung my head low not daring to look up at the one thing I may never have again once these three days were up. "Tommy you have to see this!" she cheered beckoning me to come over to where she was standing. I dared myself to glance up and my heart skipped a beat when I saw her holding a bouquet of white roses in her hand. I don't know who put them there but it was enough to make me move my feet and walk to her.
I walked towards her passing the glowing candles and smiled, she looked irresistible beautiful. "Just think of things like this-" she began as I looked over the get up she had just put on upon finding the white bouquet of roses. She held the flowers in her hand and had a white lace drape gently resting in her hair acting as a veil "You will get through the war because you'll have a bride to come home to and the wedding will be the most stunning anyone has ever seen". I couldn't help but chuckle she was such a dreamer and always managed to lift my mood.
I couldn't stop staring at her. Her cheeks slightly rosy the candles illuminating her skin and the brightly coloured glass windows exaggerating the blue in her eyes. She could have been an angel standing before me and I would not have noticed a difference. "I'll do my best" I leant down and kissed her softly savouring the moment. A set of footsteps echoed in the great room as they approached the two of us. "Thanks for the invite" I turned around and surprisingly Ada stood with her son swooped up in her arms.
"Haven't see you in a while" I held Annabelle's hand as she put back the trinkets she found. "I was just passing through and I thought I heard one of my brothers chatting away in here. It would seem I was correct" she half smiled her eyes slowly landing on Annabelle. "We'll take care of her you know that right?" he nodded and pulled me closer "I wouldn't expect anything less". "We should get going" I linked arms with her and we began walking after saying goodbye to Ada. "What are you going to do for the rest of the day?" she asked as we exited the room.
"Hopefully figure out a plan" "A plan for what?" she asked wondering what I had in mind "Im going to try and see if I can be stationed here instead of in France. I don't feel comfortable leaving you here by yourself in the middle of a war but also when there are already people who would use you as a way to hurt me" I wasn't going to just let this go. Later after taking her home I went out on a personal business trip to a friends to try and get my station changed.
I spent the afternoon with some of the officials that had become good friends during the first war asking them if there was some possible way I could remain behind and defend. I unfortunately did not receive the news I wanted. In stead I was being positioned once more in France. After my efforts in the first war I was placed in the same position just with a higher rank. I now sat at home in the living room with Annabelle explaining the plans they had for me and expressing my disappointment in not being able to do more with my power to able me to stay.
"Its not good enough" I shook my head knowing there was so much more I should be able to do to make things better for her and the baby. "Tom this is out of your control" she tried to reassure me as my uselessness seeped deeper and deeper into my thoughts making my guilt escalate. "I love you and all I need you to do is love me back. I can take care of myself and I'll find a way to support the family" she smiled reassuringly.
