Soon I was conscious again, gasping as air filled my lungs causing me to cough up water. My body was shaking and freezing cold despite the numerous blankets which were wrapped around me.

"Rose? Rose are you okay?" I looked up, to see Hermione looking down at me a worried expression on her face. My hand was in hers but I could not feel her touch. I felt completely numb. My eyes shifted from Hermione, to Ron, Harry and then to Veronica. They all sat by my hospital bed with a similar worried expression on their faces. Slowly I propped myself up on my elbows trying to find a comfy position as I came to fully.

"I've been better." I said, my voice croaky and hoarse. Hermione and the others let out a sigh of relief and laughed lightly but the laughter soon faded into awkward silence.

"I just wanted to say thank you... Thank you for pushing me out of the way." Veronica spoke quietly, her eyes slightly glossy with tears.

"Well, what are friends for?" I said smiling at her as we hugged each other.

"I'm so glad you're okay." She said, her voice muffled in my shoulder but I could hear her let out a relieved sigh. The two of us pulled away and said our goodbyes, Veronica allowing me and the others some privacy, leaving me Hermione, Ron and Harry.

"Harry, I don't even know where to begin but thank you..." I began before I got interrupted.

"Why are you thanking me? You should be thanking Malfoy... He's the one who saved you." Harry said Draco's name bitterly as confusion flooded over me.

Draco saved me?

"It's true... Draco's the one who saved you. He broke his hand punching through the ice..." Hermione said looking across the room to where Draco sat on a bed being tended to by Madam Pomfrey, his back turned to us. His hand was bruised and bloody and images of a hand breaking through the ice flickered through my mind as I began to remember what had happened.

"We're going to go, it looks like you and Malfoy have some catching up to do..." Ron said as he motioned for Harry and Hermione to join him. Hermione hugged me before leaving with the rest who waved goodbye before they disappeared through the doors. Slowly I peeled back the blankets which were wrapped around my body and placed my feet on the cold stone floor. My body was weak as I made my way over to where Draco sat with his back turned and his head down. When I reached him his head snapped up, his usually slicked back hair was messy and stuck up at all angles. His eyes were red and puffy and his battered hand was wrapped in bandages. He was waiting for Madam Pomfrey to return with a potion.

"Hey..." I said sitting next to him on the bed gently, my hand grazing over his slightly. We sat in silence for a minute, neither of us was sure what to say or where to even begin.

"Why did you do it?" I asked my voice barely audible but I knew he'd heard me.

"I- I don't really know... I just know I need you in my life... You keep me grounded somehow... And god knows who I'd become without you..." Finally, he looked at me, staring deeply into my eyes which were now filled with tears which threatened to burst their banks like a river.

"And with how things were left between us..." He began but I ran my finger down his soft lips causing his eyes to flicker shut.

"I'm here now," I said in a gentle tone, as he opened his eyes to look at me. He ran his hand down the side of my cheek as a stray tear fell down both our cheeks in unison. Slowly we edged towards each other and soon our lips collided and we were in a world of our own. Letting out all our passion and feelings for each other. It felt so good. Like second nature almost. His hands weaved their way around my waist caressing my skin through my clothes. God, I'd missed his touch. I brought my hands to his shoulders as our kiss deepened like never before.
