Chapter 11:

I let it fly... Right into the nearest bush. Only about 15 ft. off...

I sighed and retrieved my arrow. Taking a deep breath, I tried again. Placing the feathered edge through my forefingers, I gulped and released.

Shocking enough, it actually hit the tree! I grinned and again, retrieved the arrow. This time with more confidence.

After 20 or so more tries, I decided to give it a rest, as I remembered what day it was. The first day of the games. Putting the bow and arrows away, I tried to steady myself. Then I dreadingly, began the trek back home.

My mother had the TV on full blast, and she curled up, intently waiting for the 5 o'clock premiere.

"Prim!" my mother gasped. She's always this jumpy before the games begin. Seeing my concerned look, she relaxes a little. "There's some cabbage soup on the stove."

"Thanks," I whisper. Neither of us talk much. I get a bowlful and sit next to my mom on the couch.

There's the normal introduction, and then all the tributes are on there pedestals, waiting for the 60 second countdown. They were surrounded by water and my mother gasped. I reminded her that Katniss knew how to swim.

That calmed her down a bit. I however, boiled up inside. I knew exactly why this arena was created, and I knew exactly who it was created for.

As the gong rang, some tributes dived in and others stood frozen, unable to swim. Like Peeta. The camera flashed to Katniss and she was headed strait for the cornucopia. I smiled when she got her hands on the bow.

There was a small moment of panic as one of the tributes swung a sword at her, but was instantly killed by Finnick, showing their alliance.

As the bloodbath began to cease, he, Katniss, Mags, and Peeta, all set out into the rainforest. There was one frightening moment when Peeta was almost killed, but he was revived by Finnick.

The night sky crept upon them and the Capitol seal appeared in the darkness. 6 dead, 18 to go. As Katniss' alliance began to drift, she took first watch. Everything was calm, until the white fog appeared and the blistered flesh began to singe.
