"Oh my god," I say as we walk quickly to where he is. He's in the hall, lost. I'd recognize that hair anywhere. He doesn't look good at all. He's wearing a black hoodie, black basketball shorts, and some black sneakers. Eyes bloodshot.
"Seth?" Kacey says as we approach him.
He quickly pulls down the sleeve of his sweatshirt.
"Hey," he says weakly.
"Seth," I say, "You don't look so good."
"I'm fine," he says and starts to walk away. He stumbles a bit. Definitely not okay.
"Hey," Kacey says and pulls him back by his sweatshirt. Pulling up his sleeve. He covers it quick but my eyes are quicker. He's got an IV in his arm.
"Seth," I say, "Wanna tell us what's going on."
"Not really," he says walking away again.
I shrug. I sigh. Why does he have to be so diffic-
Thump!
"Oh my god," I say, "Get a doctor!"
Seth is passed out on the ground. Why is this night gotta be so long?! I check for a pulse. Good. He's got one. Faint, but he's got one. What the hell did they give him?! I then feel myself being pulled away from his faint and lifeless body.
"C'mon," Kacey says as doctors rush to Seth.
I see a woman crying as we enter the waiting room. That's his biological mom. I'd recognize her anywhere. She looks just like him. She'd look more like him if his hair wasn't dyed.
"Mrs. Hamilton?" I ask as I approach her.
"Oh my god Shauna!" She says in relief and hugs me.
"What happened with him?" I ask as she lets go.
"He-He I don't even know anymore it's been going on for so long. Then when I heard your friend calling for a doctor and saying his name I freaked. The therapy was supposed to be quick," she explains.
"What do mean therapy?" I ask concerned.
"He... He was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago," she explains.
"Oh my god," I say.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Kacey says.
"Don't be," Mrs. Hamilton says wiping her eyes.
"I never got why such bad things have to happen to such good people," Kacey says.
"Yeah, me neither," I say.
"Well, he-he's strong," she says.
"Yeah," I say, "He's a fighter."
"Yeah," she sighs.
I wonder where his stepmother is. She's usually with him. Well when he was in college she'd be the one that comes.
Seth's family is kind of complicated. He's explained it to me about a million times. But from what I've gathered his biological mom and dad got a divorce when he was eight. Then his mom was remarried to his stepmom when he was 16. So technically he has a mom and a dad. Then he has a second mom because of the remarriage.
"Want us to stay with you?" I ask.
"No," she says, "No. it's okay. I'm fine. Now go along and be on your way. There's no need for you to be here with me."
"Okay," I say, "When you see him tell him I said to feel better."
"Okay, thanks," she says, "Goodbye."
"Bye," we both say.
Then we walk out to Kacey's car. I get in the passenger seat. She gets in the driver seat.
"So," she says, "Do you wanna go out to eat?"
"Yeah," I say, "Sure. That sounds nice."
"Okay," she says starting the car, "Not to long ago Nelson told me about this coffee place that I haven't gotten the chance to checkout."
"Sounds good to me," I say.
