Everything around her was blurry. As she walked through the palace halls, her eyes drifted down, and her vision focused for the first time. On a body. The closer she got, she realised it was covered in something. It was blood. It was her father. And next to him her Aunt. The King and Queen were dead. So were her cousins. Her best friend. She continued walking through the bodies, down a once white now stained red hall. She came to the last body. It was a boy she had never met. His hair was blonde, or it would have been in the sun, and his dead eyes were open, starring. They reminded Lailah of topaz. She looked at the body. Where did he come from. Why did the sight of his dead body cause her more grief than the rest of her family who she knew and loved. She continued through the hallway and came to an open doorway. She stepped outside. Her city was on fire. There was, animals running around. Hybrids. They were tearing everything down. She tried to run but she couldn't move. She was stuck in place. All she could do was watch.

Lailah jumped awake. She was sweating. She never sweated? Then she realised it wasn't sweat. She was crying. But there was another feeling in her chest. Dread. War was coming. Who was that boy. She knew what she needed to do.
