"Dean?"
"Dean!" At the sound of Sam's shouting I stirred, though my eyes refused to open I was so tired.
"Shhhhhhh. She's sleeping." I felt Dean whisper. Half in a dream I lay completely still, the only sounds being Sam's footsteps and Deans steady heartbeat.
"What are you doing here?" Sam whispered, a frown in his voice. There was silence. When he didn't answer I stirred, turning so that I was facing the other way only to realise I was in his arms. Just like how I we were before I fell asleep. After the long pause I was sure he was staring at me, his hand making it's way into my hair and combing it away from my face.
"She needed me." He finally answered, his voice heavy with something I couldn't identify.
"Is she okay?"
"Just a little shaken up. She keeps saying she's fine but... I think she's just used to putting on a brave face. I don't think she's hunted since she found out about the baby so to be immediately in danger - I dunno I think she just panicked." Dean said softly. Then there was silence again, and a gentle tugging in my hair, like he was twirling it around in his fingers.
"Sammy we have to look after her." He finely said, his voice ruff and low.
"I know."
"No. I don't think you do... anyone that becomes part of our lives ends up... I mean Jo. Ellen. Charlie. Kevin -"
"-I told you. I know, Dean. I've thought about this too and neither Megan or the baby are going to get in harms way. And it's not just us I mean... she's Jody's daughter."
"That's what we always say-" Dean said, the tugging in my hair stopping.
"- well then this time we better mean it. Because I am not going to watch you push her away because you want to keep her safe... you deserve to be happy." Dean scoffed.
"You do. We both do. Amongst all this crap, there's a happy ending... there has to be." Sam said, his voice heavy with hopefulness.
"Whatever... bitch." Dean said, his arms tightening around me slightly.
"No. Not whatever. Just think about it. You're going to have a kid, Dean. This could be your way out if you want it to be. You're going to have a family of your own-"
"- you're my family. So what does this mean for you if I do get out? If I do get a big house and a wife and kids. Where does that leave my baby brother?" My heart squeezed at the emotion in his voice, imagining his glossy green eyes staring at his brother. As the silence stretched on I began to drift lower and lower into sleep, the last things i heard being Sam's low tone.
"You can't protect me forever, jerk."
The next time I woke I actually opened my eyes. The room was dully lit with the light of a lamp. Sitting up I rubbed my eyes, yawning. Running a hand through my hair I looked to my right to see Dean already staring at me, a cautious smile on his face.
"Hey. How you feeling?" He asked, a hand soothingly rubbing up and down my back. I blushed at the tenderness in his voice and kindness in his eyes as I remembered the events of the night before.
"Better. A little embarrassed, actually." I said honestly.
"Don't be. Do you still want to go to the doctor?"
"No...wait yes." Dean nodded solemnly. I laughed awkwardly, turning my body to face him.
"Not for a scratch that I completely freaked out over but I actually haven't been to the doctor yet and I'm guessing I should be taking vitamins or something." I said, tucking some hair behind my ear. Dean put his hand lightly on my knee. I blushed gently at the gesture.
