Two weeks of school had passed so far, and Avery had made Mattzew ditch class whenever there was art or math, or basically every class to practice using their magic powers. Mattzew's powers were out of control anyway, so he was just too dangerous to be around. But Avery didn't really think he had powers. He was just messing with her like he always did. Those sparks were obviously fake! Even a fool could tell you that. Today though was a special day for most people.
Not for Avery, though. Today was a day of torture and she wished Mattzew felt the same as her. It was certain that nothing was going to end well for either of them. Today was an assembly at their school. She hated assemblies for many reasons. One, because people tried to tell her what to do. Two, because they wasted time, and three, because everything the principal said was not true. He made up stuff just to fill people's nightmares with dread and worry for The Test.
OH, NO THE TEST! At least, that's what many students kept their minds occupied with. The Test was a series of advanced and developed questions that kept your brain in action for over two hours of the day. Everyone dreaded The Test. It puzzled your brain, and tried to make it do things, like answer a question. They tricked you by making the first question easy like 2+2 (which was obviously 5), but then the rest of the questions tortured you like 4x=12. But enough about The Test. Avery had better things to do, like figure out the best angle to throw a spitball at her science teacher. She was not going to worry about The Test, even though it was today. It didn't matter, as long as she failed. Because if she failed, she wouldn't have to do it again. The Test was mandatory for all students, but those who failed would never take the test again. Then, the teachers would never expect much of her ever again. She never wanted to see The Test again, even though it was out of her power to choose whether or not she should take the Test today. She gagged as she watched the teachers leading the parade of students into the Multi-Purpose Room, but resisted sitting down when the teacher tried to push her down.
"I'm mighty fine to sit by myself, thanks," Avery growled and sat down, watching as the chaos unfolded in front. Students ran to get offices and calculators. She saw students begging the teachers for The Test. She even saw kids fighting to grab The Test. What was this horror, where everyone wanted to be tortured? Avery did not know. Humans had strange intentions. The principle snapped his fingers and everyone hushed and turned to watch as he spoke, their eyes filled with excitement and fear, both at the same time.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I would kindly like to remind you to keep your test to yourself. People who succeed get special advanced classes-"
In Avery's 7th grade, there were 8 groups of people. "The Techno's," who spent their days talking about recent advancements in technology, "Nerds," who studied like brainless zombies and spent every ounce of their life on getting straight A's, "Fashatrons," who celebrated the trends and fashions, "The Brushers," who painted non stop and were creative in every way, "The Opera," which was a group of singers that not only sang in tutorial and chorus class, but also performed at lunch, "Sport Jocks," who watched football and played every sport imaginable, "The Popular Group," who pretended that they were the best at everything and were snots, and finally the "Irritated Bunch," which was a group of people which didn't try at anything and only liked to socialise and pick fights on the nerds or another unfortunate person who disagreed with them. They were pretty strong and cold-hearted too. Of course, there were smaller groups like the "Dinosaur Followers," or "The Orange Shadow Magic Squad," but those only consisted of several people. Mattzew was part of "The Popular Group," and Avery was part of the "Irritated Bunch." Anyway, when the principal said "people who succeed in special advanced classes," the Irritated Bunch started booing at the principal. Since Avery had to hold a reputation with them, she booed too.
