"You say you're glad, yet somehow you knew I would come. How?" Jane asked, taking Mr Redire's gloved hand as she stepped down from the carriage.

"I merely hoped you would, my Lady." He replied. He motioned for her to enter the tavern, yet she didn't move.

"I am here for answers," Jane stated. Her eyes boring right into his.

"And I am here to give you them." He replied, his face straight, unaffected by her stare, he stared right back.

She nodded in reply, and opened the door to the tavern and proceeded in.

It was musty inside, the floorboards creaked as she walked, the walls slightly damp and mouldy, and the windows were foggy and covered with dust. Yet, despite those things, some part of her immediately liked this place, it felt real and fresh to her.

There were only five other people in the pub apart from her and Mr Redire, which she could see. One man was playing darts by himself while taking great swigs of beer from his glass. Another man by the bar, had his head resting on his hands, a couple empty beer glasses surrounding him. The third was the barmaid, who was too busy cleaning some glasses to see she had entered. And finally, two men, who, if Jane hadn't taken the moment to scout the place, would have missed entirely. They were hidden away in the corner. Jane couldn't make out their faces as their hats were low, and their voices quiet.

"Over there." Mr Redire said from behind Jane and guided her towards one of the corner wooden benches. "Would you like anything to drink?" He added still standing even though she had sat down.

"A water, please." He nodded at her request and ambled over to the bar.

Jane watched him as he went. "Hello, Paulie." He said to the barmaid, who immediately looked up at the young man in front of her.

So, he's been here before. Jane thought.

"Oh, Peta." She said with a smile of familiarity. Then a second later her smile disappeared, and she looked up from cleaning, "Is she...?" The barmaids' sentence drifted off, as Mr Redire looked Janes way, and Paulie followed his gaze.

Jane immediately looked down at her hands, both their eyes on her made her feel nervous.

"Oh, My God. It's really her." Jane heard Paulie exclaim.

"It really is." He replied. "But what is he doing here? I thought I asked him to stay at the house." His voice was more like a low growl now.

"You can't blame him, Peta." She said, then added so quietly that Jane wasn't sure she heard it right. "She's his sister too."

Mr Redire just sighed and nodded, before grabbing two glasses of water and walking back towards Jane, with a quick glance at the two men huddled in the corner.

He sat down without a word yet and then took off his gloves and placed them on the table.

Jane took a deep breath.
