"Would you like me to polish your shoes again before you leave, your Highness?" Mr Kurr asks Alex while tying the Prince's bow tie.

"If you wouldn't mind Kurr, my Father has a habit of loudly mentioning any flaws I have, so I try to limit them as much as possible," Alex explains with a sad smile.

"If you don't think me too bold Sir but-"

"Oh please Kurr, you have known me since I was a baby, you must know you can speak freely. Me drawing closer to becoming King..." Alex drifts off a little at the thought, fear coursed through him. "Well, what I mean is that it shouldn't matter, please go ahead, Kurr." Alex turns back to the mirror and straightens his black suit a little as Mr Kurr begins.

"You are very kind your Highness. You have always been kind, and I think you are going to be a great King when your time comes. And as I was saying, your Father is a great king as well, we all know this, but if you decide to rule a different way, then it isn't wrong. As my Father used to say to me 'Be not the Power but become your own'." Mr Kurr looked across the room sadly as he recited this.

"Your Father was a great man, his death was a great loss to this kingdom, and to my family, you must know this. And thank you, your words are too kind, you sound almost like Jane." He explained, but almost immediately after her name left his lips, his stomach clenched with sadness.

She had rejected him. He made a move too soon, he shouldn't have pushed her, and now he misses her, he misses her almost beyond the love he holds for this kingdom.

His mind raced to the feeling of her smooth thighs against his own. The taste of her salty skin on his full lips. She was a never ending delight, every part of her was like a new part of the world to explore and discover. All he wanted to do was have her in his arms again. Feel the warmth of her body pressed hotly against his. He craved it, with every part of his being. He couldn't even look at her without wanting to have her as close to him as possible and taste the juicy lips he didn't get a chance to try...

"Jane is a smart girl." His Butler's words bring him clawing back unwillingly into the world.

"Yes," Alex said sadly looking down, as Mr Kurr places the shoes onto the Princes' feet.

There is a knock at the door, to which responds Alex's allowance to enter.

"Dear, you must start heading down now, the guests will be arriving soon," Lily says walking into the room. Her dress was a dark purple, with a lace white belt tied around her waist elegantly, and a matching pair of white shoes. Her hair was done up in a bun, with small curls on either side of her head.

"Yes, Mother." Is all her son replies, without even looking at her.

"Mr Kurr, will you go down to the ballroom, the servers are expecting your help. You are dismissed, thank you," Lily says with a polite smile.

The Queen waits until the Prince's butler has left the room before starting the conversation she had been dreading.

"You look very dashing Alexander." Lily smiles and walks over to stand behind her son in front of the mirror. "You know there will be many of your Fathers greatest friends here to meet you today, that's exciting, isn't it?" His mother knew the answer and so she took a deep breath before beginning.

"Listen, Alexander, and listen carefully. You are my only son, my only child, and I want you to be the happiest in the world. But we do not live in a care-free world, there are responsibilities we all have to undertake. I know your Father and you are not getting on well right now, but you must understand his stress. His only son not interested in the jobs of being heir, his wife not having any more children, despite their trying?" Her voice grew louder towards the end, but she grabbed Alex's hand in a sign of comfort and smiled sadly again. "You are a strong minded man Alex, and I know, no matter our bond, you will do your own thing, but listen to me now. This Kingdom will be yours soon. Its people will be yours to protect. I didn't want to push you Alex, but it's time to take more responsibility. You will be King, and I know you will be great. But I won't take your side forever. You are eighteen now, an adult. It is time to start taking control. You will now be in full control of the Kings men. Your Father will stand back. It is your decision what you will do with this con-"

"WHAT IF I DON'T WANT CONTROL, MOTHER? WHAT IF I DON'T WANT POWER? Did you think of that?" Alex, who had been quiet this whole time roared at his mother, who not only did not flinch but instead narrowed her eyes at her son in reply.

"You will not, and will never raise your voice at me, you understand? You are the heir, start acting like it." As she said this, she started taking in the bags which hung under his eyes and the water which filled them.

"What if I'm not good enough?" It barely came out as a whisper, but the way Alex refused to look at his mother told her everything she needed to know, and her anger crumbled.

"You are my son, named after the great Edward Dál Riata's son, Alexander Dál Riata. You will be great, and as memorable as those who came before you." Alex looked into his mother's eyes now as she spoke with such pride. "Trust in yourself, and people will follow." Is all she said before walking out of his room, leaving him standing there without support.

He only wanted one person right now, and he was going to get her.
