He could feel his cheeks fill with warmth the more he drunk. The music was blasting throughout the room, and bouncing off the old castle walls, echoing the noise around the room. The party was in full blast now, and the King had drunk more than his fair share of the rich, dark wine. People were swinging each other around the room, moving their bodies joyfully to the music.

King James was sitting in his throne, looking over the festivities in utter contempt. He turned his view to his son, who was standing in front of him, his arms crossed, and his normally light blue eyes, were now dark and deep in thought.

"Son, come here, lemme look at you." The King slurred the order to his son, the wine taking greater effect than he thought it had.

Alex didn't think twice before walking up the steps to the set of Thrones which looked down over the ballroom.

"Where is the young Jane this evening?" The King asked, his eyes struggling to stay open as he spoke.

Alex didn't reply, but his deep eyes automatically glanced over to the blonde girl standing chatting to another woman. Alex felt bad for the woman, next to Jane she was nothing in comparison. Jane stood out in a crowd as clearly as the sun in the sky. He watched her as she downed a glass of wine.

The King whistled lowly in appraisal. "That is one gorgeous woman."

Alex didn't take a moment before glaring at his father in disgust. But it wasn't Jane the King was staring at. Alex followed his father's gaze to the Queens new Lady in Waiting, Samantha.

The young woman was around Alex's age, and she was beautiful. She had black hair which was tied up in a soft bun. Her face was soft, yet her cheekbones stood out and framed her face. She had long, luscious eyelashes which fluttered on her cheek, creating soft shadows

"Oh Jesus, can you not control yourself for once?" Alex tried, looking over at his mother now. She was so much better than him. The first time she found out about him being with other women, she had slept in Alex's room and hugged him tighter than she ever had before. He hated his father from then on, to do an act that selfishly, knowing the hurt it would cause his wife. It disgusted him more than anything else his father had done.

He looked back to his father who was licking his lips smarmily, ordering a near guard to come closer.

"Go tell that maid there to come to meet me in my chamber." And off the guard went to follow the Kings order.

Alex blew out a frustrated breath, his jaw was clenched in anger. James just laughed at his son before him.

"You will understand when you are in my place. They don't stay like that forever." He said, nodding his head over to Jane who was now dancing with a man.

Alex could feel the heat of anger grow on his face, as he watched the man who was dancing with Jane, move his hand to wrap around her waist and moved her elegantly around the room.

He watched her now, his eyes were glued to her. She had walked away from his comforting just two hours ago. His heart ached to know what was wrong, why she was crying, so he could help. Seeing the tears trickle down her cheeks made him angry. He demanded to know what was wrong, and he wished he had been softer with her. She had looked so fragile in that moment, and in his arms, even for a brief moment, had made him feel more comfortable than he had in a week. But he had felt anger which had come from somewhere else that he didn't know existed. In that moment, he wanted only to kill whoever had caused her this pain, the power she held over Alex scared him.

He watched as his Father stumbled drunkenly out of his throne and out the back door of the ballroom towards his bedchamber. Alex walked away from the thrones towards a server and grabbed two glasses of wine from the tray. He downed the first one and headed towards Jane who was now standing alone.
