Chapter 21

It had been 19 days since the day of Hyunwoo's plane crash. Kihyun, under the persuasion of Kwangji, had eventually given up any hope of finding Hyunwoo.

His parents have probably already claimed his body. I'm just disappointed that I didn't get invited to the funeral.

He was throwing a few darts while drinking some canned beer. He struck bull's eye for three consecutive throws. "Fuck yes." He congratulated himself and took another sip of the beer.

He yawned and walked over to his bed and lay down. "I'm so fucking tired," He said to no one in particular. His aunt had gone to live with his other distant aunt ever since he brought Hyunwoo home.

"I can't get in the way of budding romance, can I?" She had said with an exaggerated wink, and Kihyun remembered wanting to punch the lights out of her for saying that.

He closed his eyes. The effects of alcohol were kicking in. I'm so groggy. I think I'm going to sleep for a while. He slowly drifted away to dreamland, leaving reality behind.

Is that Hyunwoo? He squinted hard. Fuck, it is. Kihyun stood riveted to the ground, unable to believe his eyes. He's alive. Hyunwoo's fucking alive! He began running towards Hyunwoo with open arms.

And he ran right through Hyunwoo. As he slowed down and turned back, he saw Hyunwoo smile sadly at him. Wait, what? He shook his head hard and approached Hyunwoo.

His heart fell when Hyunwoo gave him a small wave. That's it? Is he going for real? He watched as Hyunwoo walked on, the distance between them growing until Hyunwoo was nothing but a small speck in the distance.

Then that small speck disappeared altogether.

Kihyun slowly fell on his knees. Warm tears ran down his face. Why, Hyunwoo, why? Why did you have to die? He wished he could take Hyunwoo's place.

You've got a nice family, and you've got a job earning decent money. It's not fair that you died without being given the right to enjoy life to the end.

He ran his hands through his hair and cried in anguish. Please come back.
