Facing the guardians was a more tedious task than I first remembered it to be. One, or two now seems to be my limit.
I don't know what happened to the times of fighting a legion of these monsters was no problem. Now, all it takes is a few swings and then the world seems to be falling. A slow, dark descent into blackness. Yet- my eyes are blinded by light.
And that's when I realized- that I'm not descending into darkness. Because all I can see is their bright red eyes, that and a metal machine that never fails to make me ache. I stiffen under the cold rain that falls from above, body feeling as if it was on fire. Isn't it funny? I don't even understand the difference between the slow approach of death or the rain anymore. And it seems that just raising my bow is enough to make my head spin. The world, slowly, shifting beneath my feet- or is that just my body giving up? "I can't- I won't make it..."
Their eyes fall upon me- red beams shooting through the darkness until they landed upon their prey... That's all I am- a target in the open, bare and free for the taking.
I know that I need to load my bow- but my hands won't stop shaking. It's suddenly too hot, and my body feels heavy having to carry all this weight. And only silence seems to seep in.
It seems as if the world was screaming at me- soft whispers that have risen into panicked shouting beneath my own breath. Yet silence is all that surrounds me- a cold, numbing silence.
Even the sounds of the monsters' mechanisms don't reach my ears. Only noise- static painted upon the landscape of this battle. Even with my eyes closed the noise invades my senses, sending me into a panicked spiral. Doubt filled my mind, and old promises shackled themselves to my wrists. And a vow- forcing me forward. Until my last breath.
"What a stupid girl.." I smile fondly- old memories of the world that should have been, flowing through me.
I let out a small chuckle as I stand up- my legs wobbling beneath me. "I'm going to die here-" I turn my eyes upward- my bow shaking as my hands did so.
"But- I did make a vow, a vow to her- a vow I'd come back safe." I should've known better- promises like that never last...
I raise my bow- a golden arrow placed between my fingers. I cock it and begin to aim- my body shaking more and more as time went on. "Zelda," my breath slows as I aim, dark shadows twisting through the dark landscape. "Why did we go down this path?" I shook the hair from my face, the rain pounding against my shoulders.
Memories of forgotten times are all I can think of now, and it already feels like my fate has been decided.
Who has the right to decide my fate? The king? Zelda?"God?..."
"No..." that's for me to decide.
"One..."
"Two..."
"Three..."
I fall to the ground, a bright flurry of green wisps surround me as I then fly up into the sky, a burst of wind pushing me upwards.
And all the arrows found their mark...
I hit the ground hard, my body giving up as I flip onto my back and watch the machines disappear into black smoke.
"Heh," I chuckled out light headedly as I looked over at my sword, it's light slowly fading. "Hahahahahaaha!" I started to laugh full heartedly, tears streaming down my face as I just couldn't stop. "Heheh," I bit my lip hastily before pulling myself up off the ground, rain still pounding down on me. "Heh, wonder when I'll ever be able to pull something like that off again..." I trembled softly before sliding my sword into its sheath and pulling myself up off the ground.
I wobbly started towards the nearest Stable, my feet burning with every step I took. Maybe I can get a quick nap before heading out to Zora's Domain- shit. I mentally cursed as I spotted Zelda standing inside the inn, our horses in the nearby pen.
It took her a minute to spot me, but when she did she simply huffed and walked away. Before promptly sitting down at one of the tables, her back to me. What a pompous brat. I walk into the inn, a strained groan coming from me as I sat down at the table beside her. "Ready to go yet?" She says harshly as she sends a harsh glance towards me, arrogance lacing her face.
And all I could do was say, "yeah."
