Aaron is getting anxious to get home. Zayn is without a doubt taking home Aaron. He wanted to. Aurora is taking me home from school. Mom told me that she got off work early today to surprise him. I’m really excited to get home and watch my brother open his presents. The whole Northfort soccer team is going to be in my house for my brother’s birthday. Lucas and Aiden wanted to come and Aaron invited them. The bell rings for the end of the day and I jump up to my feet. I want to go home now.
I run down the hallway to my locker. I quickly pack textbooks for today’s homework into my shoulder bag. “You act like it’s your birthday.” Zayn laughs behind me. My eyes widen. “You should be taking Aaron home by now!” I scream loudly. Some faces turn towards me but they keep walking. Zayn’s warm chocolate brown eyes widen in shock.
But Zayn quickly covers up his surprise with one of his signature goofy smiles. My heart flutters but I ignore it. “Damn Violin Violet you are even more hot when you are feisty.” Zayn says with a wink. My eyes widen and I fidget in my stance. I close my locker and I push him away from me. Hot? Really? I don’t know how I should feel about this.
Aurora walks down the hallway towards my locker. I quickly run after her. I leave Zayn standing by my locker with a smug smile on his face. He knows what kind of affect he has on me. It infuriates me sometimes. Aurora and I jump in her car and we drive home for my brother’s birthday. I’m just so excited. We walk into my house. “Did you get the cake?” I ask quickly putting my bag on the floor in front of my door. I run back downstairs.
Mom’s face smiles. “Of course, I got the cake.” She smiles. I smile back. The boys from the soccer team along with Aiden and Lucas come into the house. “Zayn called, he said him and Aaron are two minutes away.” Lucas says. I smile kindly. “Alright, let’s get ready.” I call out. The sound of Zayn’s car pulls into the driveway. The nerves in my body jump with excitement. I’m just so glad that I can make this year worth it for him.
I hear them chatting quietly and I watch them open the door. Aaron knows that it’s his birthday and he knows that we are all here waiting for him. It’s still fun for all of us. They open the door and everyone for the heck of it scream. “Surprise!” Aaron knows that we did this. Aaron’s smile gleams and lights up the whole room. His face glows happiness. I can’t help but pull his energy and use it as my own happiness.
My body acts in action. I run and pick Aaron up into the air. I smile as I hear Aaron’s laugh. I drop him down. “Cake and presents at the same time?” He asks. I nudge him with my fists. “You know it kid.” I reply pushing towards the kitchen. “Thank you, again Zayn.” I say turning towards him. He nods as we walk towards the kitchen. Everyone bought Aaron present. That’s the most anyone’s gotten him in years.
All the presents have been open except mine which he doesn’t know about. “That’s all.” Mom says. “Not at all.” I reply running upstairs. I run into my room and I fall on the floor. I scream in shock. My face hits the carpet floor. A loud thud sounds through the house. “Are you okay?” I hear Mom yell upstairs. I sit up. “Yeah!” I holler back. I grab the presents and I stare at what I fell on. Stupid bag. I avoid the bag and I make it back downstairs in one piece.
I shove Aaron the presents. “What is it?” He asks. I shake my head. “Just open it.” I reply. He obliges my order. Aaron opens the one with Northfort signatures. His eyes widen in shock. She looks at me than at everyone in the room. He has no words. “Thank you!” He screams at everyone and hugs me tightly. I smile with tears welling up. I’m okay. I swallow the tears. We pull apart. “Here, open the last one.” I say pushing them gently into this hands.
I watch him eagerly tear open the box. He lifts the Brazil football. His eyes widen a little more. Aaron reads every single name. “How did you get this?” He exclaims. I smile widely. “It’s a secret.” I say putting my finger on my lips and staring over at Zayn. He smiles dashingly winking me. I smile back. “You’re the best sister in the world!” He beams hugging me.
