And So it Begins

We hadn't made it out to space not even 5 minutes and there was already some sort of quarrel. "Rocket, stop pissing me off already! Why don't you go make some junk or something?" Quill glared at his companion.

"Junk? JUNK?! You're calling the shit that saves your ass JUNK?!" Rocket growled. "You know what? I'll go ahead and make some junk like a bomb and I might just accidentally DROP IT!" Rocket had leaned into Quill's face and spit came flying out of his mouth. Quill wiped a hand across his face and was about to say something when I jumped up.

"Hey, Rocket! I got a question for you. Can you come with me for a minute?" I made sure to position myself between the two men, also so I could gain Rocket's attention.

His expression was of pure anger as he turned back to the copilot controls. "What is it, humie? I don't have time to sit around and hold hands singing Kumbaya, nor do I want to."

I crossed my arms. "I'm not asking you to hold hands with Quill. I'm asking you if you can help me with my stitches and bandaging. But apparently, you're too busy having a pissing contest to be bothered with that." I turned to leave.

"Aw, shit. (Y/N)! Wait!"

I didn't stop to look back as I climbed down the stairs to the common room. The bathroom was vacant so I stepped in and spread out the medical supplies on the counter. I popped two of the pain meds before I pulled my shirt and pants off to get a better look at my injuries. I stood there peeling off the blood soaked bandages when I heard footsteps getting closer.

"Uh, (Y/N)? Can I- oh shit! Sorry! I-I didn't know you were, um..."

I covered myself up before I realized it was only Rocket. "It's okay, Rocket. I thought you might have been Quill or Drax."

There was a beat of silence until, "Look, I'm not great at this apologizing shit but..." He trailed off as he took a seat on the edge of the tub. "I'm just trying to say that I didn't mean to snap at you."

I could tell he was nervous as he looked down and scratched the back of his head. "Apology accepted. Besides, I knew you'd follow me anyway."

"What? So.. it was all a trick to get me down here?" He asked astonished.

"Uh, yeah. How else would I get somebody so stubborn to do what I want?" I laughed as he squinted his eyes at me. I finished unwrapping the bandages and started to apply alcohol but Rocket's paw snapped out and gently grabbed the cloth from my hand. "Here, let me do it." I nodded and steeled myself as much as I could from the pain.

"How bad were your ribs broken? I didn't get to see the charts."

I hummed. "There are three that are cracked pretty good. Breathing hurts like hell and it's hard to reach for stuff or move." I let out a hiss as alcohol seeped its way into one of the larger gashes on my leg.

"You know, (Y/N), there was something I wanted to tell you before we split up to fight Ronan." Rocket began, averting his eyes everywhere but my face. He let out a sigh and shook his head.

"Yeah? What was it?" I prodded, curiosity getting the better of me.

"Aa, I'm not ready to tell ya yet. Nevermind." He stated.

At that moment, an idea popped into my head. "Oh-ho, does that mean you are feeling awkward?" I leaned down and gave him a cat-like grin. His brows furrowed and his mouth set into a line. My smile faded as he splashed some alcohol right onto a wound. I let out a yelp and jumped back.

"Don't even start with me and that shit. We both know that you were uncomfortable outside the bar in Knowhere."

My face reddened. I often thought back to the moment when we shared that kiss but I thought that it was just something that happened with no meaning behind it. Just two drunks living in the moment sort of thing. I wondered if he thought about it, too.

My silence was answer enough. "Yeah, I thought so." Rocket gave me a smug look. "I win."

I stuttered and tried to come up with a response but failed. He pressed his face closer to mine, noses barely touching. The gap between us grew shorter and our lips met in a second kiss, this one gentler than the last. He placed one paw on the side of my face and the other wrapped around my back, pulling me to him.

I practically melted into him until I realized that I was standing there in my undergarments, with the door wide open, kissing one of the team members. My face grew incredibly hot as I pushed away from Rocket who looked about just as shocked as I did.

"Uh, um...thanks for your help with my bandaging and what not. I can take care of the rest from here."

Still a little dazed, he nodded. "Sure, no problem. Uh, do you need help getting out of the rest of your-"

"NO! I don't need help with that, thank you." I watched him exit the bathroom, quietly chuckling to himself.

I guess that kiss did mean something after all.
