After our 'talk' Rocket seemed to be in a better mood and wasn't acting like a jerk. We made up for lost time by working quickly on the ship, only stopping to grab something for lunch. I gave Nebula some of my food and some water. She didn't give me a 'thank you' but I could see the appreciation in her dark eyes.

"Okay, (Y/N). I'm going to start setting up some traps out in the forest in case we have any unwanted visitors. It'll take me the rest of the afternoon to put it all together and set it up. I need you to keep working on the ship, okay?"

"You got it." I said in between bites of food.

Rocket had monkeyed with Quill's stereo system and was able to get it working again so we had tunes to listen to. Awesome Mix Vol. 1 had been played twice just as darkness settled in outside. Rocket came back to the ship and grabbed two walkie talkies. I had just put in Awesome Mix Vol. 2 and Lakeshore Drive began to echo throughout the ship.

Rocket thrusted one of the walkies at me. "Keep this turned on. Don't turn it off for any reason. I'm gonna go out in the woods to keep an eye on things." He started walking out but I grabbed one of his arms and pulled him in for a hug. "Be safe. I have a bad feeling."

Puzzled, he looked up at me. "About what?"

"Everything."

Several hours past and so far things were uneventful. Nebula had stretched out and fell asleep while little Groot sat by the walkie talkie listening to Rocket humming along to the tunes. Southern Nights by Glen Campbell was playing and Rocket actually started singing. I momentarily stopped working so I could listen to his voice. I'd have to ask him to sing for me once all of this was over.

I happily resumed working until a few moments later I heard screaming and gunshots. Nebula jerked up, looked out into the woods then directed her gaze to me. Groot worriedly hovered near the walkie and wrung his little hands together, looking at me with concern. I grabbed the piece of tech and hit a button.

"Rocket. You okay?" I whispered into the box but my only response was Rocket's singing followed by a maniacal laugh. That's when I saw blue light flashing in the forest accompanied by more screams.

"(Y/N)? Stay in the ship. Everything's fi-" The walkie cut out and I radioed back to him with no answer. I grabbed a gun along with my bow and arrows. Striding quickly through the forest, I made sure to keep my footsteps light as I listened to the sounds around me. Off to the left I heard voices and then a sickening crunch. I notched an arrow and burst into the clearing to see Rocket leaning over an unconscious Ravager. "(Y/N)!? I told you to stay in the ship!" I started walking towards him but stopped dead in my tracks as an eerie whistle bounced around the trees. A red flash and suddenly Yondu's arrow came to a halt mere centimeters from Rocket's head.

"Aw, crap."

I raised my bow at Yondu only to hear the sounds of guns whirring and clicking in return. "Hey there, rat and company."

"How ya doin', ya blue idiot?" Rocket kept his hands up and his ears were flat against his head.

"Not so bad. I tell ya what. It sure was easy to find ya. Put a tracking device on your ship a while back. Got some golden gal with a high opinion of herself asking us to capture you and your pals so she can kill y'all." Yondu talked about this as casually as one would talk about the weather.

Defeated, Rocket sighed. "Look, promise you won't hurt Groot and...and I'll tell ya where the batteries are."

"Lucky for you, my word don't mean squat. Otherwise, I'd actually turn you in." Yondu spat on the ground. "We'll take the batteries and sell 'em. They're worth a quarter mil on the black market."
