A short but sweet chapter :)

It took us a whole fucking week to figure out all the details of our plan but we finally figured it out. We made sure to stock up on our supplies on the last planet we stopped at. We bought food, lots of different kinds of alcohol (some for us while some were for the crew), miscellaneous decorations, and some special parts Rocket needed for one of his projects.

We kept cool as cucumbers and more often than not did most of our work when the rest of the crew was sleeping. Little Groot even pitched in by coloring and drawing some pictures. I found the crayons and sketchpad at a market and thought it would be good entertainment for him when he's bored. Turns out he's putting it to good use.

It was time to put our plan in action. We had both volunteered for pilot duty that evening so that we could set everything up. We decided that it would be best to do a breakfast thing since it's difficult to sneak around when everyone's awake.

I helped Rocket set up his tech and get a makeshift table set up. I taped Groot's drawings on the nearby walls and decided when this was all done, I was going to keep them. I set up a few candles in the center of the table to light later and Rocket placed down some silverware and plates. Once everything was done, Rocket grinned at me.

"You ready for the finale?" He beamed up at me. "Sure! Whatcha got?"

Rocket turned and flicked on a switch on his device. All of a sudden, it looked like we were standing outside the ship in space. Colors and stars lazily spun around us making it seem like somehow the galaxy made its way inside.

"Oh, Rocket! This is beautiful! Absolutely stunning!" My mouth was agape as I slowly turned around the deck to take in the sight. "Eh, it's nothing really..." Rocket said with a shrug but I could tell that he was pretty proud of it himself.

I high fived him and laughed. "Alright! This is fantastic. I think our plan came together nicely." I commented, still smiling at him.

"So did mine."

A little confused, I furrowed my brows and looked at him questioningly. He chuckled at my expression. "While you were planning something for Quill and Gamora, I was planning something for us." He stated. Still confused, I let him lead me over to the table and we both sat down. He fished out a bottle of wine from under the table cloth and poured two glasses for us. "Just something I thought we could enjoy together."

As I was taking a sip of my wine, Rocket pulled out something else. In the dim light I couldn't make out what it was. Some sort of box?

"I found this the other day when we were getting our supplies together. I saw it and immediately thought of you so I had to get it." Rocket fiddled with the object before he slid it across the table.

Hesitant, I reached out and brushed it with my fingertips. I pulled it closer to me and opened the little box to reveal a necklace. It was thin but was adorned by gemstones that seemed to reflect whatever colors were around. Speechless, I traced my fingers along the gems, admiring how they reflected the artificial stars floating around the room.

"Well?"

I looked up and realized I hadn't said anything to him. "It-it's beautiful! I am just...I'm speechless. Rocket, you didn't have to get me-"

He pressed a finger to my lips to stop my babbling. "I got it because a beautiful girl deserves to have beautiful things. I noticed that you don't wear anything besides those three rings on your fingers so I got you a necklace."

Tears started to form in my eyes so Rocket changed the subject. "Speaking of, what are those rings of yours?" He reached out and grabbed my hands, rubbing his thumbs over each one.

I was unsure about telling him, but decided to anyway. "The ring on my left pointer finger was given to me by my mom and step-dad. The three diamonds stand for 'We love you.' Three words, three diamonds." I exhaled before moving on. "The next one I received from my step-grandma. That's the one on my right middle finger."

"Why is there a cross?" He asked me. "My grandma bought that ring for me. I always struggled with faith in...anything really. It serves as a reminder of her and carries hope that one day I can finally believe in something."

Rocket nodded in understanding. "That makes sense."

The last one is the ring on my right thumb. "My step-dad had purchased a bunch of these on Ebay, which is a website where people buy things on Earth. This ring actually spins. The bottom part is stagnant but the top part moves. It helps me with anxiety and it means a lot to me." Now it was my turn to change the subject. "I think it'd be cool to use a similar design to make one that sparks a bit. You know, like fire?"

My distraction worked and Rocket's eyes lit up. "Yeeaah...that'd be pretty cool..."

I let out a yawn and checked the time. Rocket's hand brushed my hair from my face. "Why don't you go get some sleep? I don't want you to hurt yourself cooking breakfast for those morons." I laughed as he walked me to my room. "Such a gentleman." I said sarcastically.

"I try,"

I wrapped him in a hug and squeezed him tight. "Thanks, Rocket. For everything. I really appreciate what you did tonight."

I could feel the heat coming off him in waves. "You're welcome, short stack. Go get some rest."

I was too tired to even yell at him for calling me short. Like he should be talking. I watched him pad off back to the cockpit before entering my room and closing the door. I curled up in my bed and opened the tiny box again. This time the gemstones reflected the bluish light in the room. I rested my hand on my precious gift and rubbed my fingers over the stones. For someone who claims not to be good with romantic stuff, Rocket sure as hell did a good job.
