Okay, you have every right to hate me. I'm really sorry though, and I want to thank all of you for being so patient and amazing! The action kind of starts to pick up in this one, and things will only get better from here, so I hope you enjoy, and I hope it's worth the wait, even if only a little(: Enjoy (:

“Are you ready for Horror Fest tonight?” Cortnee asked as she flung herself down on her bed and grinned excitedly at me.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my Halloween,” I responded with an equally enthusiastic smile. Horror Fest was the one thing I had actually been looking forward to ever since I moved to Washington. It was a huge deal for the entire town, one massive Halloween party. There would be a parade, a costume contest, multiple haunted trails and haunted houses, and even a special black-and-white horror film showing in the front yard of the town library.

Her smile suddenly took a devious turn as she wagged her eyebrows knowingly. “Is Cole going to be joining us tonight?”

I rolled my eyes at her. “I don’t think so, Cort. He has a big paper due Monday that he hasn’t even started on.”

She wrinkled her nose. “Oh. I think he’s more of a procrastinator than I am.”

“I don’t think anyone is more of a procrastinator than you.”

She shrugged. “You’re probably right. But anyways, will you finally let me see your big mystery costume that you’ve been keeping a secret from me?”

“You’ll see it tonight when we get ready!”

She groaned and let her head slip down into her comforter. “I don’t understand why it has to be such a big secret!” She mumbled through the fabric.

I stood up from my bed and patted her mass of blonde curls. “Because I love Halloween, and I’m all about an air of mystery. But you’ll see it in a couple of hours if you think you can be patient until then.”

She looked up at me, narrowing her muddy eyes as she spoke, “It better be good if you’re making me wait so long to actually see it.”

I shrugged. “You’ll just have to see.”

And later the evening, Cortnee got exactly what she wanted. I slipped the fabric over my head and let it fall to its natural spot at mid-thigh. The heels lifted me an extra few inches as I stepped into them, and finally turned to face my reflection in the body length mirror hung on the bathroom door. Inky curls fell down to the middle of my back, topped off with a small, black top hat set off to the side of my head. Thick, black lashes and winged eyeliner brought out my electric green eyes, followed up by blood red lips. The dress, however, had to be my favorite part of the entire costume. A burlesque-style red corset laced up with black ribbon brought in my waist, and complimented the dainty black skirt that hung from it. For the first time in a very long time, I actually felt confident.
