Chapter 1- Size Matters

Ebony Cruz-

"Hey....thanks for meeting me here" Ebony said to the boy who sat beside her. His name was Carlos and Ebony and him had been good friends for about two months now. She had a very important question to ask him..

"Yeah sure,what's up?" Carlos asked.

"Uh...well...I like you a lot and..um I think you're a great guy" Ebony says, gulping nervously with each word.

"Oh uh...thanks." Carlos says, smiling awkwardly

"And uh I was wondering...If you would like to go out with me?" Ebony asked, anxiously biting her lip. She felt great that she finally let Carlos know her feelings for him. At this point she was hoping desperately that he would say yes.

"Oh...gosh Ebony...I'd like to its just that-" Carlos said stuttering a little. Ebony's face fell.

"It's just what??" She asked.

"Its just...I don't date girls who are taller than me.." Carlos said not looking at Ebony in the eye as she stood up from where she sat towering over him at 5' 11".

Ebony stood there shocked at what he said.

"Are you serious?? That's your reason?? Why should that even matter?" Ebony yelled clearly irritated and upset.

"It'd just be...super weird that's all." Carlos says still looking down upapologetically and Ebony sighs and they both stay silent for a while.

"Could I...change your mind somehow?" Ebony asked, a spark of hope in her eyes and Carlos sighed.

"How 'bout I give you some advice?" Carlos suggested, making eye contact with her now. She made a face.

"Um..okay?" She accepted, hope leaving her eyes.

"Don't fall for a guy who's shorter than you" Carlos said with certainty and came closer to her and put his hands on her tall shoulders while looking up at her.

"Take Care Ebony...Goodnight." With that last said Carlos left into the darkness leaving a now crying Ebony alone in the shadows.
