Chapter 16- I Can Like Whoever I Want

Oh. My. Gawd.

Justin's ex is walking straight towards us . Lisa is here and she's coming straight towards us.

I looked again at Justin and his face look as white as a sheet of paper and he didn't dare move. Man I wonder what he must be thinking right now.

As Lisa and her friend got closer and closer to us I tried to break Justin out of his frozen trance by nudging him in the shoulder and he kind of sort of recovered but he still looked shocked and nervous.

She walked up to us with her friend in tow. She gave Justin a longing look almost sad and regretful and he stared back stunned and at a lost for words.

My first instict was to walk away because this wasn't my business but instead I decided to break the silence.

"Hi...Lisa it's nice seeing you here......r-remember me?"I asked her nervously with a smile.

"Yes......yes I remember you" She said almost with a pissy kind of tone and she gave me a look that did not look pleasant. Did she not like me? I don't get it why wouldn't she like me.?

Then suddenly it all clicked. I was the one who told her that Justin would be there at her party. Instead he wasn't. He was somewhere else. He was with me. But that wasn't my fault,right?

"Lisa...what are you doing here?" Justin finally said attracting both me and Lisa's attention. He said it almost like he didn't really want her here. Almost like he wanted her to leave.

"I came here with my friends to have a good time......it's nice to see you Justin" She said with a small smile.

"Wait...hold up this is Justin?"Lisa's friend piped up all of a sudden. She looked from Justin and then back to Lisa again and Lisa nodded.

"Oh so this is the heartbreaker!"She said pointing her finger in Justin's face and I swear I saw his jaw clench up. I wanted to smack her hand away from him myself but you know how that would look? Not good.

"Heartbreaker?..." Justin asked through clenched teeth.

"Yeah Heartbreaker! Lisa waited for you the whole party and you didn't even show up. That's foul" The girl said her voice getting louder at Justin. Justin seemed to realize what he did and his face softened as he looked at Lisa.

"Stop it Clara......I already feel bad enough" Lisa said hanging her head down and she picked at her bracelet. This girl Clara just shrugged Lisa off and looked up at me with a curious look. Uh oh.

"And who are you supposed to be?" She said nodding her head up at me. She's right. Who am I supposed to be?

"Um well...I...you see I'm-" I stuttered nervously not knowing what the hell to say.

"You don't happen to be Justin's girlfriend are you?" She said raising her eyebrows at me.

Like that is any of you're business.

That seemed to catch Lisa's and Justin's attention because they both looked up at me waiting to her what I'd say.

I was just completely at a lost for words. My tongue felt like it was tied in a knot but before I could say anything Lisa answered for me.

"O-Of course she's not his girlfriend......Justin would never date any girl taller than him." She said to her friend in an obvious tone.

She's right......Justin could never like a tall girl like me. I stared down at my shoes gently kicking a pebble.

"How would you know? Huh?" He said to Lisa and Clara and they both looked at him shocked. But not as shocked as me. He seemed to be getting angry as if they were like insulting him.

"Because Ebony is my girlfriend!" He yelled at them while taking my hand in his.

Um......WHAT?? Hold up. WHAT DID HE JUST SAY?

My heart started hammering in my chest and my face I bet was a deep color red. I looked down at him with my eyes practically bulging out of my head. Then I looked down at my hand. Oh shit! He's holding it again!! I feel like I'm going to melt into a puddle. Did he mean what he just said right now?

The girls that I almost forgot about mouths were hanging open and they tried to speak but they couldn't. I saw a twinge of sadness develop throughtout Lisa's face.

"Come on. Let's go..." He said quietly and quickly tugged my hand away pulling me away from then. We ran and ran and ran until he stopped in front of me and we were in a dark part of the park. His back was facing me and his muscles relaxed almost like he was sighing.

I wanted answers. I wanted answers so badly. What was that back there? Did he mean what he said?

"I'm sorry" I suddenly heard him say and I looked up at him. He was rubbing the back of his neck. Sorry for what?

"I didn't mean to drag you into that......I'm sorry I embarrassed you" He said finally turning around to look at me. What was he saying? Embarrassed me?

"You probably noticed but...I don't like when people tell me what do to......not even Lisa. So when she said that I couldn't like you because you're taller than me I just......lost it. I'm sorry for that" He said and he actually looked sincere.

Ohh so that's why he said that. Because he didn't want anyone telling him who he can and can not date. I could understand that.

But......then that means he didnt mean what he said. That I was his girlfriend.

"Before I met Lisa...I liked this girl who was tall...like you" He said looking at me "and I told her that......but she didn't want to date me because I was shorter than her......she told me never fall for a girl who is taller than you" He said to me while shaking his head and smiling.

Wow. Why does this sound all to familiar?

"But...you're not going to listen to her right? You're not gonna take her lously advice and let her tell you who you can like......right?" I said defensively hoping he would say no.

He chuckled a little bit.

"Of course not. She's not my mom. I can love any girl I want" He said smiling showing all his white teeth.

Oh my god. He's not gonna give up on tall girls. So that means there's hope right?

Suddenly a loud boom and crack sounded from up above and a blast of colors and light illuminated in the air.

"Oh hey look! Fireworks!" He said and ran closer to go see them. He was looking up in the sky with such a dreamy gaze almost the way I look at him sometimes. He is such an amazing guy. Everything he has done up until now has led up to this.

I'm going to do it.

I'm going to tell him.

I sucked in my gut and called out to him.

"Justiiiin!" I yelled and he turned around and looked at me with a curious expression. I was smiling from ear to ear and soo nervous but I had to do this. I can't live my life just wondering.

I builded up all my strength and called out to him again.

"Justin I......I-I like you...Justin!" I said to him and I felt like a weight has just been lifted off of me. I've finally told him.

He continued staring at me a little shocked as a few hairs fell in front of his face.

What he would say next would change my veiw of him forever....
