What would the alpha need us for? I brushed the question off and followed Colton to the packhouse. Madison gave me a concerned look and we took the elevator to the sixth floor. "So what does he need me for?" I asked breaking the silence. Colton shrugged and led us to his room. I heard Colton mind link alpha and tell him we were there. Alpha opened his door and smiled at us. "Colton you may leave."
"You two are getting to the age where Madison, you're about to be appointed as Alpha, and Tara you'll soon have to train a Delta. Since the Alpha usually has already found their mate by this time, we will give you extra time to find your mate. Beta Grant has stepped down from his position to give you the Beta title, Tara. That means a new Delta will be appointed. We have found the person and will wait for them to mature before you start training." That was a lot to say. Madison looked at me and back at Alpha, "s-so I'm going to be the alpha soon?" Alpha Sean nodded at her, "you're going to do wonderful, my daughter." Madison smiled and looked at me. "So I uh- have to train a Delta soon?" He nodded once again and dismissed us. "Beta Tara, I like it," Madison said poking my cheek. "It's an honor for an alpha to like your name," I said mocking her. She shook her head and walked to the elevator.
We stepped out of the elevator and went to the kitchen. An omega was cooking chicken nuggets and fries for the kids. "Amy could we get some by any chance?" Amy twisted around and smiled at us, "of course, Madison." Her dark brown eyes lightened a bit and she turned back around and made both of us a plate. "So how are the kids doing with school?" Amy looked up from her pan, "they're doing wonderful! No absences or tardies. Jamie did get in trouble for shouting though." Madison shook her head, "kids will be kids." I stuck my tongue out, "I don't like kids." Madison punched my arm lightly.
I finished the chicken nuggets and thanked Amy. As soon as we got outside Madison started running toward Dega, who was organizing a patrol. "Dega Dega Dega Dega come here," she said motioning for Dega to come with us. "You have to call Tara Beta Tara now!" she yelled. I covered my face with my hands as others started yelling Beta Tara. "Madison they heard you!" She smiled cheekily, "well you're their beta now." I rolled my eyes and started walking off when Dega grabbed my wrist, "Tara, congratulations."
I walked into my room and went to my desk to finish my homework. I didn't have much so I finished it quickly. I turned my phone on and played some music while I cleaned my room and picked out an outfit for tomorrow. My school is weird, since I have a half day every Monday and Friday, I only get one day off. So I have to go to school on Sunday. The classes are really easy on Sundays and I end up doing almost nothing. History class is about Moon Goddess on Sunday's though.
I finish picking out an outfit. A black long sleeve with 'no thx' written on it. Some black jeans and my white converse. I jump onto my bed, and go under the navy blue covers. I play on my phone for a while and before I know it, Madison is calling me down for dinner.
I walked down the stairs with her, only to be greeted by Dega at the bottom of the steps. I saw Camille(Kameel) beside her. She's another fighter. I saw Amy and gave her a smile. Beside her was Beth, my mother Shelia, and Maya. I gave them a wave and saw the my name on the table beside a plate of food. I smiled politely and sat down at the table. Alpha Sean was seated two seats away from me, and right beside me was Madison. Well, Alpha Madison. I started picking at my plate, deciding that I wasn't very hungry. "So, as you may have heard, Tara currently holds the Beta position in the Shattered Moon Pack," Alpha Sean announced. The whole table shouted my name and my face grew hot. "Thank you," I barely whispered.
As I walked to my room I heard my name being called. "Beta Tara? Beta Tara! Alpha needs to talk to you." I turned around to see James, his green eyes turned an orange. I couldn't tell what made them that color, as mine only have only changed a few times. I walked up to him, "is is urgent?" He nodded quickly, "very."
"Okay," I said bolting down the stairs. He's with his mate. I ran out of the packhouse doors and to the pack neighborhood. The people that wanted their own houses stayed there. I ran to Lisa's house and barged into the door. There stood Alpha Sean, his head was beadedwith sweat and he held something in his hand. Madison was behind him with a worried look on her face.
"Tara, Alpha Andrew sent us a note," he said, his voice cracking the slightest bit. He handed me the note and written on it with bad handwriting was, 'a new beta means a new alpha. A new alpha means another competition. You remember the deal, don't you? Brother.' I dropped the note. "Y-you never told me about a competition!" I yelled throwing my hands in the air. "What does it even mean? What does he mean, brother?" Madison asked frantically. Alpha Sean shook his head.
"Alpha Andrew is my half brother. It all started when the Singed Battle happened. His great grandfather saved his great grandfather's parents instead of his great-grandfather's brother. His brother came out alive. At the time the kid was fourteen and didn't know what being an alpha was about. He promised that there would be a competition to see if his side of the family or him was the ones worth saving. I had to fight to become alpha. They've lost all times, and I don't expect them to win this time." Madison had tears streaking her face, "will any others get hurt?"
"No, not that I know of." She nodded and wiped the tears from her face. This was a lot to take in. "So I'll have to fight too?" Alpha Sean nodded.
I was going to be ready for this.
