Amu Hinamori sat in the corner of her bed against the wall. It was only 7 o’clock in the morning. She was thinking back to the time, 3 days ago to be precise, when a police officer rang her up and told her that her parents had just died in a car crash. This came to her as shock of course since she was not expecting anything while watching Pitch Perfect with a bowl of butter popcorn in her lap. But nevertheless, time cannot be turned, as well as deaths, and so, Amu had spent the next 3 days mourning for the loss of the two most important things in her life. She was now over this fact and had decided to move on like any human being would.
Amu was now thinking about what would have happened if they hadn’t died, if they hadn’t gone out to do the shopping. She would have smiled as they walked through the door with plastic bags full of groceries. She would have wished them a goodnight’s sleep and then gone off to bed. She would have woken up the next morning and not have to worry about going to a funeral but spending the day with her family at home. And then they could have wen-
“Ding-dong!”
The sudden noise of the bell snapped Amu out of her deep thoughts and back into the real world. “Who could that be at this time of day?”, she wondered as she got off her bed and slowly made her way downstairs. The only sound to be heard throughout the whole house was the creaking of the stair steps under her feet. It had been quite lonely living in the whole house by herself, but she was informed yesterday that she will be moved into a family permanently, not as the family’s adopted child but rather as a permanent guest. “Hmm, I wonder what the family will be like? Will they be nice?” pondered Amu as she walked to the door. Amu opened the door and came face to face with a red-haired woman. She looked very formal with her black ruffle top tucked into her cream pencil skirt and black heels compared to Amu who was wearing a grey loose tank top with turquoise mini shorts and black converse with high tops.
“Umm, hello,” said Amu, “Can I help you with anything?”
“Good morning Amu-chan. My name is Sanjou Yukari. I have come with information about the family you are going to be moved into permanently,” the woman answered.
Amu’s eyes widened. This was it. This was going to be a new start for her, a new future and of course, a new FAMILY!
“P-please come in,” said Amu nervously as she gestured to the lounge.
“Thankyou,” said Yukari. She stepped through and made a swift observation of the house. She then seated herself in the middle of a 3-seater couch and placed some folders and papers on the coffee table. Amu seated herself to the left of Yukari on a black leather recliner.
“Alright, now as you know, it was in your parent’s will to send you to a family to stay, a family that they have known very well,” stated Yukari. Amu stayed silent and just nodded.
“Well, the American Institute of Children’s Homes has sent me here today to tell you that the family you are moving into will be the Tsukiyomi family.”
The name ‘Tsukiyomi’ suddenly sounded familiar to Amu. She thought for a while until her brain suddenly gave a jolt of memory.
“Oh, them, yes I know them. I think they were my parent’s best friends,” said Amu with her eyes closed, as to try and remember something. “I think I have spent most of my childhood Christmas’s with them,” she added.
“So, you are fine with moving in with them?” Yukari asked.
“Umm…well…YES! Of course, since I AM familiar with them,” she answered.
Yukari stood up, picked up her folders and papers from the coffee table and smiled.
“Well that’s good. Right, now if you could, I would like you to pack your bags and luggage, anything you want to take with you. I will be back here tomorrow at about noon to pick you up and escort you to the Tsukiyomi’s residence,” she informed.
“Thanks for coming to tell me this,” responded Amu, making her way towards the door and unlocking it.
“Not a problem.”
Amu watched as Yukari made her way towards her front gate. She then remembered there had been a question on her mind throughout their whole conversation. Damn, I almost forgot!
“Wait, Sanjou-san! Where do the Tsukiyomi’s live?” Amu called out just in time before Yukari entered her car.
“Oh, they live in Florida. Their home is close to the Miami Beach,” Yukari answered. “I suggest packing a bikini, or maybe a lot of shorts since it’s very hot there,” she added with a grin.
Amu grinned back and went back into the house after a final wave. She plopped herself down on the 3-seater couch, taking up most of the space. She closed her eyes and thought about what it would be like to live Florida. “I haven’t been to a beach in ages. Chicago doesn’t have that much beaches anyways. Oh yeah, I have to go to a new school as well. Hopefully I can actually make some friends. My life here is so crap.”
Amu didn’t have any friends here at all. Her “cool and spicy” façade just made everyone sure not to mess around with her or else their graves would have been dug. Even the teachers knew that and weren’t that talkative to her. To everyone, she was a person who was very scary.
“I wonder what the Tsukiyomi family is like. I know there are 7 boys, but what were their names again…I forgot…whatever,” considered Amu.
Amu stood up to take a shower for the night. After cleansing herself with her vanilla strawberry shampoo, she changed into a black t-shirt that said ‘Love Stays Forever and Always’ and a pair of grey sweatpants. She went downstairs and put on the kettle of boiling water. She also prepared a hot and spicy noodle cup since she wasn’t really in the mood to cook anything. Amu went into the living room and turned on Fast and Furious 6. Tonight was the night where she will just relax for the last time, by herself in her home before her new life started.
“Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee,” screamed the kettle. Making her way through the kitchen, Amu prepared her dinner and then seated herself to watch the movie. As she stared at the screen, Amu’s mind kept on flying around something about the Tsukiyomi’s and her first kiss, but when she couldn’t put two and two together, she went back to the movie and to slurping on her noodles.
Tomorrow was going to be an exciting day, and Amu just knew it would be.
