The next morning, the boys and I paid our dues to Grandview and hit the road once again. We were coming home now to Plainview. Back in Grandview we saw our old school and there were students coming and going. We seen who we wanted to. We passed my mother's old antique store that she opened up after she married the first time when Jim was alive, when he didn't get shot. When he didn't become Sam. But I just gave the store a small smile. I remember when I first looked upon it. Where so many spirits came and gone to say that they needed our help. Then we passed Delia's work office as I told the boys to pull over so I can come and say hi to her and Ned. When I got out and walked through the doors, there in her dress attire for work smiled and looked at me with widen eyes.
"Hey, Delia" I smiled as she ran over to me and developed in a big hug. She was crying as I hugged her tightly and told her the things that was going on in Plainview. "We miss you, Ned should be here in a few minutes helping me out" She says as I nodded. "How's Eli?" I asked about the professor that helped Melinda in listening to the spirits when I could not. "He's doing good, he's been working everyday now. And comes to visit and telling us the spirits what it wants." she says as I nod and got up and told her a quick goodbye and told her to say hi to Ned for me as I left and we headed through the places that needed to paid respectfully. Such as the memorial for the crash that happened when I was younger. So many people lost their lives and when the tower fell during a memorial tribute, Melinda was killed and she was almost taken from me. But as faith would have it. She survived and we never let her out of our sights. Then we drove to the other memorial that was for our fallen classmates who died during the massacre that Duncan caused with Dominic.
I sighed and looked down as I drove on and let the guys follow me on the highway and headed back home. It was friday and we would be back by tomorrow. But I would think it would be better if we headed home together. I had my music playing through out the whole car ride as I hear my phone go off. I looked at it and saw it was Rodrick calling. Rodrick? Why is he calling?
I grabbed the phone and answered it as I turned down the music. "Hello?" I answered as I hear the voice that I have missed for a while.
"Hey Maria, it's Rodrick" He says as I hear an old man in the background as he sighed. "You ok?" I asked as I stopped when a car ahead of me was slowing down for animal to cross. "Not really, just need you here. I hate being stuck with old people when I could be practicing with my band" he says as I nodded. "Sorry Rodrick, I would be there for you, but I'm in a tough spot right now. I'm actually on the highway. I'm going to put you on speaker hold up," I then pulled the phone from my ear and set the Bluetooth on before speaking.
"Okay your on speaker" I announced as he spoke.
"Where are you?" He asked as I shrugged.
"I don't know, I just got back from Grandview, wanted to visit some things. But i'm on my way home. The boys are behind me in their van right now." I described to him.
"So you going to be in the Talent show?" He asked as I sighed.
"Yeah, sadly I am" I looked up to the clouds as the car in front of me started to drive forward and pick up speed. I drove on as I still stared at the now darken clouds. They were now finally turning a black color which meant they were going to let their tears fall down. I rolled my window from my side up and closed my other window.
"Well I hope to see you there then, well I got to go Maria. I love you baby, and I'll see you when you get home" He says before hanging up on me and the music resumed in my car. I sighed and propped up my hand onto the window ledge while one hand was steering the wheel. I grabbed my phone that was playing the music as I swiped over to Conor Maynard who covered Faded as I listened to the music.
You were the shadow to my light
Did you see us?
The rain started pouring down as I listened to the song as memories passed by of different ways that Grandview shaped me into the person I was. Flashes of lightning struck down as I widened my eyes.
Another star, you fade away
I continued to drive as the boys, who was following me in their black van, strode up to me in the side and honked as they caught my attention as they smiled before driving pass me and going in my lane as I rolled my eyes.
Afraid our aim is out of sight
Wanna see us, alive
I started to speed up as I went onto the different lane that went to the opposite side and pressed on the gas petal and pulled up to look at the boys and chuckled as I honked at them and passed them as I hit the gas once again.
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Was it all in my fantasy?
Where are you now?
Were you only imaginary?
I looked towards the rain as the pictures of laughter and smiles were slowly fading from my mind as I blinked and watch them fade. I then started to sing along with Conor's voice as I nod my head.
"Where are you now?
Atlantis
Under the sea
Under the sea
Where are you now?
Another dream
The monster's running wild inside of me
I'm faded, I'm faded
Yeah, I'm faded, I'm faded
So lost, I'm faded" I nodded my head and smiled listening to music as if I was riding in the rain or running in the rain. Letting the droplets hitting my face as I rolled down my window and watched as the rain came in and splattered on my things inside.
"Where are you now?
Atlantis
Under the sea
Under the sea
Where are you now?
Another dream
The monster's running wild inside of me
I'm faded, I'm faded
Yeah, faded, faded
I'm so faded, faded
I'm so faded, faded
Faded, faded, faded" I then let the song go to the next as I sighed as I exhaled while rolling up the window. I'm home. I'm close. I'm there to be near my adoptive mother who had gave me the things and pulled me away from the darkness that could have wrapped it's skinny fingers around me and tightened it's grip on me and won't ever let me go. If I just stayed at Schuyler High school. But now I go to a different school with a new group of people and another boy I fell for. Let's hope not another fate would take place in this school.
Hopefully.
