We walk in to Hazel's room and the first thing I notice is the huge, black Bipap connected to her. Her chest rises as she inhales the oxygen and then falls as she exhales the carbon dioxide. I start to think what would happen if she was breathing out while the Bipap pushed in oxygen but then I remembered her sleeping in Amsterdam, how her body would accommodate to the oxygen flow.
I walk up to her and grab her hand. I just want her to wake up now.
Hazel's mom walks up behind me and I move for her to next to her daughter. My prosthetic leg has been bothering me a lot more often so I grab a chair and sit on the other side. I rub what's left of my leg and Hazel's mom notices.
"Is everything alright?" She asks
"Yeah, it's just been bothering me but probably because I haven't taken it off for a while. I'll be fine" I try to smile convincingly.
All of a sudden Hazel coughs. We all turn to her and all the machines start beeping. Her breath is being taken away as she tries to grab air for her lungs. All of us are scared and a nurse runs in. She quickly checks all the machines and tells us we have to leave and as we leave the doctor walks in.
They close the curtain behind us and my hearing goes off. Not again, I can't loose her. I walk back to the curtain and take a peek. I hear the heart monitor do a long beep.
She's dead.
"She can't be dead."
I suddenly feel a coldness I've never felt on my cheek. I lift my hand and touch the place where it was cold.
I run inside the room and all the doctors are surprised. Two male nurses use all their strength to take me out as the doctor continues to bring her back to life.
