I grabbed a random book from a shelf in Matt's office. I brought it with me to the living room, and sat at the corner sofa. I was flipping the pages but I just couldn't seem to concentrate on what I was reading.
Matt and I went back immediately at the mansion after Donovan reported that a potential rogue was roaming around the territory. This shouldn't bother me, I thought, it's none of my business, and I'm sure they'll find that rogue as soon as possible. But, what Donovan said about where they first found the 'rogue' kept echoing at the back of my mind- Near the woods...
I thought, if that 'rogue' came from the woods, then he must have came from, or at least been to Silver Moon pack's territory. Did they hire that rogue to come after me? Or was it anyone from the pack who'd try to get me back? Was it kyle? Or Alpha Kris himself? My father?? A shiver ran down my spine.
I let out a sigh. Nah, I'm just probably being paranoid. I'm not THAT important to that pack. I'm quite sure they have already found a more 'suitable' mate for Kyle. And, besides, they're probably thinking that the pack's better off without a stubborn, disobedient she-wolf like me.
I finally decided to give up on the book, I put it down, and made my way into the kitchen. Cassandra looked up to smile at me, as usual she's cooking another dish that smelled so delicious, I just have to come close.
I smiled back at her before asking, "So, tell me, what are you cooking for lunch this time?"
"Matt's favorite dish- a prime rib! And, if you plan to make this one for him some day, take note, he likes it medium rare, and paired with mashed potatoes." She gave me a wink.
I grinned. "Alright, I'll take note of that."
She walked towards the oven to check on the ribs, then turned to ask me, "So, how was your early morning date with Matt awhile ago, Ana?"
My lips broke into a wide smile as I recalled what happened back in the river. "It was really fun. We shifted in the middle the of the forest, and raced towards the river. We've talked about some stuff. A-And, he told me that he's going to present me as his Luna to the pack tomorrow." I decided to skip the kissing part.
Cassandra's eyes grew wide, and her jaw dropped before she squealed with delight. "Oh! I'm so happy for both of you, Ana!" She then moved to give me a warm hug.
I felt tears prick my eyes as I hugged her back. Again, I was reminded of my new life here, finally, I now have a future to look forward to. A tiny sob escaped my mouth. She looked up at me.
"Oh, Ana, why are you crying?"
"I-I'm not. I'm just very happy. I-I just felt that, finally, I found a place where I belong." I forced a laugh as I tried to hold back my tears. "I'm sorry, I'm such a cry-baby."
She laughed at my remark. "Silly." Then her face turned serious. "Ya know, it's okay to feel sad, cry, or simply be who you are, Ana. That's the beauty of life. Allow yourself to feel it..."
My lips trembled as I forced a smile. "But, all these years I-I've became comfortably numb... "
She cupped my face, and made me look directly into her eyes. "Oh, Ana, I understand that you're scared, but sometimes, being VULNERABLE is the only way to allow your heart to feel TRUE pleasure! Stop holding yourself back!"
She hugged me tighter, and I hugged her back as tight. This time, I let my tears flow freely on my cheeks.
"T-thanks, Cass."
That was the scene Matt saw when he arrived few minutes later. He ran to comfort me. I pulled away from Cass, and wiped my tears with my hands.
"Ana, what's wrong, baby?" He cupped my face to look directly into my eyes.
