Matt's POV

Blair and I were standing in the middle of a road. I noticed she was wearing the same clothes that day I found her at the motel. She also had her backpack with her. She was biting her lip and she seemed to be in distress. I moved to cup her face with my hands.

"What's wrong, baby?"

"I don't love you, Matt", she said numbly.

My heart sank upon hearing her words. This can't be true! I tried to hold her hands with mine but she quickly took them away.

"B-But I'm your mate! Your love belongs to me, Blair! Only to me!", I said defensively as tears started to well up in my eyes. That day in the forest, she clearly told me she loves me, and that she's ready to forget her past and start a future with me...

She looked up at me. Pity was clear in her eyes. "I-I'm sorry... but I can't pretend to love you anymore! My heart still and always will belong to Kyle. I-I really thought I could love you... b-because you're my mate... but I was wrong, Matt. I'm so sorry." She turned and started walking away.

There was a blinding light coming from the direction she was taking. At the far end, Kyle was standing proudly with his arms open, ready to welcome Blair in them.

I ran as fast as I could to get to my mate. She can't leave me just like that! But, as I was running towards her, each step I take seemed to make her farther away from me. When I got close enough to her, I wrapped my arms around her waist but then she was pulling away.

"Let go of me, Matt!" She tried to push my arms away from her. " I said, let go!" she shouted angrily. I have never seen her angry before, but as I looked at her now, her face is unrecognizable. She looked very furious.

I hate to see my mate mad, especially not to me. When I met her, I promised to serve to her and treat her like a queen, my queen... so, I kneeled in front of her, still keeping my arms wrapped around her waist. Holding her tighter.

"Tell me what you want me to do... just don't leave me, Blair. Please... I don't think I can live without you."

Again, her hands moved to my arms as she tried to wriggle herself free. But I wouldn't let go.

She became more furious. "What part of I DON'T LOVE YOU don't you understand, Matt!? I already told you! I'm in love with Kyle! And I don't f*cking care if you're my mate! I don't love you and I will never love you! Now, get the f*ck off of me!"

Every word she uttered felt like bullets in my chest.  It is true that when werewolves get wounded, they heal fast... but I doubt the same rule applies with a broken heart. I knew this pain will never go away.

When she was able to break free from me, she ran straight to Kyle and they kissed like I wasn't there.  I fought the urge to kill both of them right where they're standing. I love Blair... I decided that if he's the one who can make her happy... I'm setting her free.

"Blair..."

I heard a sharp howl from nearby. Howl? Did anyone of us turned?

My brows moved into a furrow.

Another sharp howl followed. I searched for Blair but there's nothing but darkness now.

"Blair?!"

Slowly, I began to open my eyes. I quickly sat at the sight of a wolf licking my face, or rather my tears. I wiped my face with a piece of cloth right at my bedside table. I saw the clock turned to 5:30 AM. I then turned to face the wolf who woke me up from yet another nightmare since Blair went missing. At first, I totally forgot about her, but then I remembered, I got her from Debby. She was the lost dog from yesterday.

I can still remember the shock I felt when I first laid eyes on her. She looked disturbingly like Blair's wolf. She even has Blair's eyes. But I knew it can't be her. I would've smelled her scent.

Unconsciously, my lips broke into a smile upon seeing her.  "Well... good morning to you."

The wolf let out three loud barks.

"In case you're wondering... I don't usually cry in my sleep ya know."

The wolf jumped out of my bed and circled at my feet which made my smile grew wider. I kneeled to lock her in my arms, brushing her head.

"Thank you. I'm alright now."

Again, she licked my face and I just let her. I can't explain how I'm feeling towards this wolf, but somehow I can feel her emotions towards me. It's as if she was actually worried that I was crying in my sleep and she wanted to comfort me. And it felt really refreshing

I stood up and opened the door. "I guess you're hungry. Follow me."

We made our way to kitchen where I found Cass cooking breakfast.

"You're up early", I said to her with a smile.

Reading her face, she seemed to be surprised that I was smiling at her.

"W-Wow. Is that really a smile I'm seeing?"

I don't know whether to laugh or to frown with her question. Have I been that unresponsive these past few days?

I decided to do both. "I guess so."

Cass' smile grew wider. "I see you brought your dog with you. Is she coming for the search, too?"

I walked closer to the kitchen table where she placed the steaming lasagna she just made for breakfast. I then grabbed a plate and a fork and started serving myself with it. "Well, yes. Unless you want her to stay..." I teased.

"Oh no. I'm leaving early this morning. I plan to spend the rest of the day at Debby's. We will be experimenting on something!"

I smiled at her knowingly. 'Experiment' for both women simply means a 'new recipe."

Cass then walked towards the refrigerator and picked up a slice of raw steak. She put it in a bowl and gave it to the wolf silently sitting right beside me. I noticed that this dog is fond of being close to me.

She gnawed the meat and finished the whole thing in seconds.

"Wow! Looks like somebody's hungry!" Cass announced merrily. She picked up another piece of meat from the fridge and threw it at her bowl.

She then turned at me. "Have you thought of a name for her?"

I frowned at her question. "No need for that. We will be looking for her pack and when she finds them, she'll be leaving."

It's Cass' turn to frown. "Nonsense! While she's here, we must call her something."

I sighed. "Call her whatever you want."

I stood up to place my plate at the sink after I'm done eating.

"How about we call her 'Blair'?"

For a moment, there was dead air between us.

Then, I looked up at her seriously. My jaw clenched.

"I don't think naming a dog after my mate is a good idea", I coldly remarked.

Her smile slowly faded and she bowed her head.

"The search will start in an hour", I dismissed and made my way up to my room.

When I got to my room, I locked myself in. I saw the wolf followed behind me but I decided not to let her in this time. I sat on the side of the bed before throwing my back to lay there. My hands moved to wipe the tears unconsciously welling up in my eyes.

I'm being a hypocrite if I tell myself I'm not hurting inside anymore because hell! The pain is becoming stronger as days go by that I'm not able to find my mate! I needed an explanation from her! I don't believe he just went away with Kyle just like that! She told me she loves me that day on the forest! I am her mate! She can't leave me!

Tears started to flow freely on my cheeks. I eventually gave up wiping them.

Then, memories of my nightmare this morning flooded my vision. All of my past nightmares never had an ending, but this morning, it ended... with me losing Blair.

Oh God... I can't...
