My heart is beating faster and faster as I go deeper into the woods. I can feel the adrenaline rushing through my veins. I'm not being followed, I'm sure of that. I don't catch any wolf scent nearby. And I was careful when I sneaked out to the backdoor of the mansion hours ago.
I don't know if Kyle had already returned and found that I am missing. I hope not. Too early for that.
I remained in my human form. Half-running, half-dragging myself as I make my way through the woods. I should've shifted into my wolf form, but I was afraid I might leave tracks on my way. I can't risk that, not when I'm not even half-way yet. I plan to do that when I'm already in the heart of the woods. There the trees are larger and denser, I'll be safe to shift and that's when I'll make a run to the town.
"And then what?". It's my wolf. She's a big one, the biggest of all the females in our pack. And she's purely white, with a light gray eyes. She's magnificent. Every she-wolf in our pack envies her.
And she agrees with me running away from Kyle because he is not our mate, but she's not totally positive to my plans- or rather, the lack of it.
I don't blame her. I only have one backpack with me. In it are my clothes which are only good for three days, some hygiene stuff, a pair of sandals and some money. I'll find a job in town, I thought.
"I'll think of something later. Right now, we worry about how we can get out of here. Fast." I replied to her. I saw doubt in her eyes, but she just kept silent.
I was afraid they already know I am missing. If they search for me here in the woods, They might pick up my scent afterall I haven't been really far. So I focused on my running. I can't believe how dark it is out here, I only have the moon to light my way. My clear wolf-sight helps a lot though.
I was running for what seems like eternity, until I noticed that the trees now are incredibly taller and denser. Even the light of the moon can only peek through the small holes high above the leaves of the trees. I must be at the heart of the woods now. It's safe for me to shift here.
I started removing all of my clothes, then I called to my wolf. Soon I turned into a magnificent white wolf. I was breathing heavily, my body ache all over. I steadied myself for a moment, adjusting to my new form.
I thought to myself, whoever said shifting is easy, obviously has never shifted in his life. It isn't. You get your bones break and your muscles and skin twist and tear, forming another shape, which is the wolf that you are. It would take a moment before you can finally adjust to your new form. Good thing though, werewolves heal fast.
When I'm ready to go, I carried my backpack and clothes in my mouth.
"Game time!" I said to myself. Then I ran as fast as I could to the town on the other side of the woods. I can feel the soft soil beneath my paws, the wind blowing to my face, and for the first time in forever, I knew... I am free.
For now at least.
I reached the town just in time as the sun rises. Just before I approach the end of the woods, I shifted back to human form. When I felt ready to go, I grab my backpack from the ground and started to make my way through the town.
I was overwhelmed by the crowd before me. It has only been my second time here. Females and pups weren't allowed to roam around here without a male's company. So, when you're father or brother comes with you, or if you have your mate, that's the only time you get to go here. Until now I don't understand why they're so strict about us coming here, it looks like a safe place to me. It is too crowded, but I can't see where's the threat at that.
Anyway, that other time I was here was when I was just twelve. My father brought me here to buy me a bike for my birthday. My dad...
I suddenly miss him. He wasn't exactly the best dad ever, he's not always around since he has to do a lot of pack works as the beta, but he is still my dad and I love him so. All I ever wanted was to make him proud, but now I know I am nothing but a big disappointment to him, a disgrace even. I sighed. I don't want to think about him or anyone from the pack. The moment I decided to leave, I am no longer a member of that pack.
That realization hit me right in the face. Wait. Does this mean I am now officially a rogue!?I thought about it for a few, and only now did I realize what I put myself into. Yes, technically I am now a rogue! I wouldn't have anyone to back me up in case I get into trouble.
I tried to remember my lessons in Territorial Domain and Wolf Packs- How many wolf packs are here in the US? Was it 23, or 28? Whichever, that is a lot! And I'm most probably stepping in another pack's territory right now. Was that why my pack was very cautious of coming here?
I became alert of my surroundings all of a sudden. I even stopped to inhale the air, if I scent a single wolf near by I swear I'd run as fast as I could. But there wasn't any. I relaxed a bit. I'm just being paranoid, I thought.
I searched the place for a motel or inn or something, anything that has a bed in it will do. I am dead tired from all that I've been through last night.
It wasn't long when I finally found a motel. I went in and I was greeted by an old lady, probably in her 60's, yet still practice proper posture I noticed. Her face lit up when she saw me. She was smiling warmly at me. I smiled back.
"Why, good morning, young lady. How may I help you?" She asked. A smile still plastered in her lips.
"A room, uh, for one, please." I answered politely.
She chuckled. "Don't you have your boyfriend with you, young lady?" She teased.
"Um, not really." I answered, not wanting to explain myself more. And she seemed to have gotten the message.
"Well sign here." She gave me a log book. "Your room number is 206." She handed me the key. "If you need anything, I'm always here. Enjoy your stay, uh..." She reached for the log book and said, "... Ana. I'm Debby." She extended her other hand to me.
I smiled at her and we shook hands. "Thanks, Debby."
I recited my name as I move up to my room. "Ana. Ana. Ana. Ana." I changed my name in case someone from my pack actually gets here and ask about me. I just had to be sure.
The room is in the second floor at the right wing. I put the key on the key hole, then turned it. When I opened the door, all I noticed was how inviting the bed is. I quickly went inside. Locked the door. And without even removing my shoes, I went straight to the bed. I noticed that my wolf looks dead tired too.
"You did a good job, Lady. Today was hell of an adventure..." I smiled as my eyes droop to sleep. Not knowing that the real adventure starts tomorrow...
