It was almost one in the morning, but Matt and I were still awake in his bed. His arms were wrapped around my waist as my back rested against his broad shoulders. His wounds weren't deep, so they healed almost instantly. I could feel his warm breath on my neck as he inhaled my scent.
"That was the most frightening moment of my life, Blair... Promise me, you'll never do that, again."
My lips broke into a sad smile.
He then moved to turn me, facing him this time. His hands snaked around my waist as my hands rested on his shoulders as I straddle him. For a moment, we just stared at each other's eyes.
"I love you, Matt. Don't ever forget that."
His lips broke into a smile. "I won't. And, I love you, too. So much that it scares me. I don't know how I'll live without you, Blair."
Tears started to well up in my eyes. I held him closer to me.
It scares me, too, Matt. It scares me, too...
It was almost three in the morning when Matt finally fell asleep on my arms. For a moment, I just stared at his face, trying to sketch every detail of it on my mind. And, deep in my heart, I prayed that this wouldn't be the last time I'd ever see him, although a part of me was already telling me to prepare myself for the worse.
Tears started to prick my eyes again. And, before I could even rethink my decision, I kissed Matt's lips, hopefully not for the last time, and gently pulled my arms away as I get off from the bed. I quickly grabbed my bag just under it, and moved slowly towards the door, then down the stairs, walking slowly as I tried not to make any sound.
Over dinner, Matt already noticed that I was unusually quiet. He asked me why, but I lied to him saying, I was just still in shock after our fight with Alpha Kris. But, at that time, without really thinking about it, I just knew I had to save my father, and that's when I planned this morning's escape.
When I finally reached the front door, I gently pulled it, and sighed in relief as I made my way out.
"And, you didn't even invite me to tag along."
My heart faltered at the sound of his voice. I turned to see Kyle walking towards me, his hands were in his pocket, and he looked like he was actually waiting for me. I noticed his feet had already healed, and his other wounds from the fight were starting to heal as well.
"I see you have decided yourself."
"Of course. I'm not going to let that Alpha sh*t kill my mother, not to mention, his own wife", he said furiously.
I looked away from him. "I-I'm sorry, Kyle. This is all my fault..."
"I already told you, it's not your fault, Blair."
"B-But, if I just stayed that night..."
"You could've not found your true mate."
My lips broke into a sad smile. "You're right... but-"
"We should get going", he dismissed.
I didn't say anything anymore, and followed behind him. For a moment, we just walked in silence.
Then, I decided to engange into another conversation woth him. "I see you have, too."
He frowned. "Have what?"
I smiled. "Found your mate, too?"
"Oh, y-yeah..." He smiled sadly to himself. "But, I can't claim her mine, yet."
It's my turn to frown. "Why not?"
He gave me a smirk. "After all the trouble we're in, do you really think, this is the right time to do that? I'll only put her in danger."
"Don't worry, Kyle. W-We'll come back to our mates after all this... R-Right?", I frowned at my own doubt.
"Of course." Then, it was his turn to ask. "I know I'm not supposed to ask this, but I'm just really curious-"
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Go ahead."
"Have you and Matt mated already?"
My cheeks suddenly felt hot with his question. "Uh, n-no, we haven't, uh, yet."
"Why not?"
"Well, same reason as yours, I guess... I-I just wanna fix my mess first."
He nodded. "So, he hasn't presented you as his Luna, then?"
"Well, yeah, t-technically, he hasn't."
"The more reason we should get over this quickly, then.
After almost an hour and a half, we arrived in town.
Kyle then spoke. "I plan to bring my mother here. D-Do you think Matt would allow us to join his pack?"
My lips broke into a wide smile. "Of course!"
He smiled back. "My mother will be very happy."
"I'm sure."
When we passed by Debby's motel, I fought the urge to go in, and greet Debby. I could still remember my first day in that motel, that day I thought running away would be just a piece of cake.
After a while, we were already approaching the mouth of the woods. I felt even more nostalgic as I remembered my first taste of freedom in this place, and here I stood again, this time, to claim Kyle's mother and my father's freedom.
I turned to Kyle, and asked him, "S-So... what's the plan, Kyle?"
He turned to face me. "Remember, '2GS', Blair. GET them, and GO back. SAFE."
My lips broke into a grin. "Right! '2GS'!"
He grinned back at me. "Say it."
I faked a frown. "What?"
"Oh come on, say it, Blair!"
I burst into a laugh. "Oh. Alright. Alright. That was kinda brilliant."
Kyle burst into a laugh himself. And, for a moment, I saw the childish Kyle again.
We decided to continue walking towards the middle of the woods, then from there, we could shift into our wolves towards Silver Moon pack's territory.
As we moved deeper into the woods, my heart raced faster in my heart. Then, a question just popped out of my mind.
I turned to Kyle and asked, "D-Do you think... we would have to kill your father, o-or anyone from the pack?"
His face turned serious, and he thought about it for a moment.
"We'll find a better way, Blair." Then he looked away. "But, we have to prepare ourselves for the worse."
I felt a shiver ran down my spine as I imagined myself having to kill someone I know, might even be a friend, from my old pack, but Kyle was right, I have to prepare myself for the worse.
When we reached the middle of the woods, we quickly shifted to our wolf forms, and made a run towards Silver Moon pack's territory, not knowing what awaited as on our way back to our old pack.
