~Chaptter Eighteen - This Battle~
Aaren's POV
I sigh in nervousness. "Nervous?" I hear a voice say. I look up from where my head was in my hands. Scott. "Very. What if we lose someone, Sylvie, Travis, Shadow?" After naming a few names, I start to ramble on about some stuff, speaking so fast, Im sure it's inaudible. I feel a weight on my should. I glance to my right should and see a dark, tanned hand. I follow up the arm and see Scott in front of me. "Relax, we won't lose anyone. We've trained so much im sure it's permanently stuck in our heads." He smirks at the last part and chuckles. I smile and stand up. Scott's hand lingers on my should, then falls off and back to his side. "Thanks, Scotty." I praise. He nods and heads back out the door. I breathe in, then out and walk to the door, slightly behind the male.
Shadow's POV
I sprint around our vast village, making sure everything is secure and we are all prepared. Guards in the plaza, in the four corners, the housing areas, in front of the Lord's Focus, and my house. The more important ones stand at the gate with the lords. Aaren and Scott pass me by, heading towards the gates. I run past them and check the plaza one last time.
I run to the gates and hear my name being shouted, the syllables being held out long, making my name sound different. Once at the gates, I climb the ladder and stand tall on the top of the gate's walls. "Hmm, I thought you wouldn't show." Genesis remarks with a cocky smile. I growl, "I plan on taking you down. I will not fall by your hands again." The crazy lord cackles like a witch. "You think you will win? Well, so be it. CHARGE THEM DOWN!" She commands. "BE READY!" My voice booms, my ears twitch when I hear it echo throughout my village. I climb down quickly and hop down the rest, the other guards and lords following. "Allies eh?" Genesis shouts over the clamoring of armor and weapons hitting the metal bars of the gates. "Allies, yeah." I mock with her snobby accent and a sneer. The angry lord scowls. Next thing I know, the gates have been littered all over the ground. I throw my glance back up and see multiple guards charge into battle, sparing with ours. My head turns to looks at Genesis, I don't see her. I turn around and then Im on the ground. My vision had blurred and is clearing, but it clears just enough for me to see Lord Genesis herself. "Seems you might lose now..." She smirks. I look to my left and see Arlo, soaring with Emily. To my right, Phoenix sparing with an unfamiliar lord, to the same for Sylvie, who is also on my right. "Not now, not ever, not in your lifetime," I grumble, pulling my legs into my stomach, then pushing them up into her stomach, knocking her up and backward. Genesis wheezes, but stands back up with a smirk of knowing plastered on her face. I look to the clear blue sky, like something helpful will be there. Nothing. I look back down and she's gone. A growl erupts from my throat and when I turn around, I hop back. She's behind me. "So, you knew I was going to be here this time, eh?" I merely nod my head.
Travis's POV
I push the guard back with my sword. I face a strong opponent, but not strong enough. They lie on the ground, motionless, so I sprint off to scan the area. I spot guards in the plaza who seem to need assistance. My legs ache from the running, my head from thinking about every attack, and my arms, from swinging and sparing. I bring my sword up and strike down the enemies, assisting the allies. "Thanks, Travis." I familiar voice grumbles. Loyd. "No problem," I smile, but it quickly fades. "I have to help elsewhere, goodbye." I wave and he waves back, attacking the enemy again.
Shadow's POV
I run to my study, not being seen. I know, now is not the time, but I need to write a note or something, just in case I, I don't want to say it... Die... I will fight, winning for my village, my friends, and my family. I put the pen to paper and start to write.
After writing the note, I call out for Raven. "Raven!" He flies in with ease and lands on my desk. "Yes, my lord?" I hand him the paper and he grabs it in his talons, "If I die during this battle, please, take this to Acorntop. I care for these people more than I ever did myself." Raven's dragon face saddens. "Y-Yes, my lord." His scratchy, dark voice responds with a bit of soft tone to it. I nod to him and he leaves to hid wherever he hides. My legs carry me back to the battlefield, where many lie on the ground, pools of shiny, fresh crimson liquid surrounds them. My run turns to a jog, which turns to a sad walk. The village is quiet, only slight clanks of swords in the distance. My glance goes in between each and every dead body. "You died for a good reason, thank you for your service," I say to the corpses of my allies. "And you guys fought well," I refer to my enemies, not being bad about it. My walk quickens to a jog, which speeds back into a run to the gates.
After my mad-dash to the gates, I see my allies, panting heavily, standing over their opponents. "Lord Sylvie, Phoenix, Emily. Danny, Aaren, Alexa," I pant myself after running the long way here. Their heads bob up, "Lord Shadow!" Danny shrieks.
I feel something cold and sharp impale me. "You should've never let your guard down..." A stern, amused voice whispers. I look down and see a sharp iron sword through my chest, blood dripping from its tip. The sword retracts through my body and I fall to my knees. I hear a loud, cackle before a loud puff, indicating they had disappeared. Blood falls from my chest and onto the dirt ground. My world fades to black, then it hits me.
I, Shadow Gillian Wagner, have just died.
