~Chapter Two - Her Past~

Xanders' POV

Gabe and I changed back into our clothes, putting our cloaks on to top the looks off. Our masks still lie upon our faces. We look at each other and nod. Our masks have two holes for our eyes, giving us a better look at the surroundings. Though Shadow, technically, has only one, she still can navigate by using her powers to sense nearby presences, good, bad, humans, animals, and magicks users. Shadow eventually got into a fight with a few warlocks in the mountains we hiked to a few years ago because we heard of a great treasure that lays at the top in a chest. We got bombarded by some warlocks and Shadow, not having a mask at the time, got hit straight in the left eye. I didn't look too bad, however it blinded her. That's why she has her hair over that eye if her mask ever comes off from lack of magicks power. Her once beautiful eyes, bright golden yellow, became one pearl white and the other the beautiful gold color. It's sad honestly, to have your dad burn in your old village and mom killed by another village at war with us, but Shadow swore she would find the village that burned hers and killed many and get back at whoever the Lord is. Enough about her, she's like... what the word... 'A sensitive topic'? What I mean is she hates talking about her past and herself.

We make our way back to the beach and sit down on the wooden dock, waiting for Shadow to get done changing. "When will Shadow be back?" Gabe asks. Just as he does, Shadow walks up to us. "Speak of the lady herself," I say. We say that instead of 'speak of the devil,' because she is in some complicated relationship with the devil, one of her forms and powers. "Yeah, I'm here. We should wait until nightfall. We can't go running around in the light, now can we?" Shadow states, leaving us with a question to answer. "No, no we can't. Your right... We should-" I get cut off by Shadow placing a finger to where her lips would be in the mask, telling me to stop talking. She flicks her tail, then her wrist, a silvery dust coming from it with something I remember as, Invisibility. She used it on us. Shadow makes a signal with her hand; Gabe and I know the signal. Run. We run away from the docks and off the beach, over to the Lords house. Gabe falls right on his butt as soon as we get there I heard it, and I lean against a wall. We can't see each other, but we can hear each other. "It's better not be her father. He may have died but his other form could've taken him over and brought him back..." Gabe says, worriedly. I sigh, "She'll be fine, she's a very strong being." He nods. Hopefully, she's ok...

Hopefully...

Shadow's POV

I heard a sound in the forest next to us. I put invisibility on Xander and Gabe, so they could run. 'I REALLY hope no one heard the name Gabe called me. That poor fool hasn't said anything to the guards and Lord. Probably in fear, he'll mess up and I don't blame him. I'm the one doing all the talking and I'm a nervous wreck (though no one can see), fearing I'll mess up my words! "Come on out. I know you're here." I say, sternly. The person comes out of the trees with a short hesitance, it's the guy with a bandana around his neck. Probably hiding some shameful scar. Oh, who am I kidding, I think I stole all the scars and put them all over me. "How in the divine did you know I was there?" He questions. "I just did, okay?" I snap back. "Aaren, correct?" I say after a small silence. He nodded. "What did you hear?" I get right back to the point. He looks down, "Umm.... I didn't hear anything..." I give him a stern look under my mask, my eye showing the only emotion I can give him. He looks back up at me, my eye glaring daggers into his soul. "Okay, okay. All I heard was that you were trying to leave... And I swear on my life that's all I heard." He states, a sound with a mix of guilt, most likely from eavesdropping, and possibly a sadness, which has an unknown reason. "You are your village seriously care too much about outsiders. For all you know I could be a spy for a different village. Or maybe just come for bloodshed and to show people how I FELT when-" I immediately cut myself off, not wanting to share more. "'How you felt when-'?" He questions, asking me to go on. I sigh I knew something as stupid as that would slip. I sigh, thinking to myself, 'No going back now...'. I warn him, "I tell you, you tell no one, and by NO ONE, I mean NO ONE!". Aaren backs up a step. I most likely scared the living daylights out of him. I sigh again and start walking, waving my hand for him to follow. Also, as a signal for where ever Gabe and Xander are to follow, just in case HE comes back.

We sit down in a small clearing in the forest near the ocean. I pull my hood off, leaving my mask. My hair dances in the wind, blowing to the right. Aaren looks confused. I shake him off and sniff the air. Gabe and Xander are here... Good... I thought. "Alright, time to re-live my crap nightmare..." I start talking about my past, re-living it like it was just yesterday, NOT 10 years ago.

~Flash Back~

Third-Person POV

Shadow was walking her way back to her village gates after a deer hunt with her friends, Xander and Gabe. They ended up finding nothing but grasshoppers and chipmunks, so they gave up. They entered the village, sadness sparkling in Shadow's yellow eyes. "Hey! Don't be upset! We'll find something next time, I'm sure of it!" Gabe cheers. Xander stifled a laugh and Shadow's head goes up, as do her ears. Her fluffy black wolf tail swishes back and forth in happiness. They talk and enter her house. They see her father, Dakota, in a panic. "Dad? Are you ok?" A 9-year-old Shadow asks. "No, no, NO! They took her, they took her, they took her!" He shouts. The two 10-year-old boys look confused, Shadow not comprehending what he said because of the speed he said it at. "Dad, slow down on your words, I didn't catch a single thing you said." The yellow-eyed girl states. "They... To-took her..." Shadow's ears flattened and her tail lies still. Gabe pipes in, "Who took her? And who is her?" Dakota shakes his head violently, tear falling to the floor. "Nicole... Shadow's mother... That idiotic village of fools! BloodPack took Nicole!" He shouts, stressed. Shadow now starts crying, upon hearing the tragic news. Xander turns her around and bends down, pulling her into a hug. Gabe walks over to the stressed adult.

About three weeks later, Shadow, Xander, and Gabe got back from not finding a deer again, come back to a village in flames. Shadow sprints in and finds her father. Burnt, dead. Shadow breaks down in tears, running out of the burning house. Gabe and Xander also run away from their houses in tears, as Shadow is. "W-We need to leave!" Gabriel shouts. "Hold on!" Shadow turns and runs into her burning house. She grabs three over-sized cloaks. One, midnight blue, the second, dark green, and the third, pitch black. Shadow pulls on her own cloak, the blue one. She runs out and hands Gabe the dark green cloak and gives Xander the black one. Xander hands something to the two werewolves in front of him. A mask. Shadow's is a black and blue fox, he carved one hole into the right side for her eye before his knife broke. Gabe's is a blood red and black wolf, two holes for his eyes. Xander's own mask was a black fox mask. They buttoned up their cloaks and ran away from the burning village and their burning, dead families.

~Flash Back END~

Shadow's POV

Little did I know, I had started crying. My right eye had tears coming out like a waterfall. My left eye, ever since being blinded, hasn't been able to shed a single tear. Aaren looks at me, shocked by the story. "Are... Are you okay with being alone?" I sniff and look at him, confused. "What?" I ask, not paying full attention to him. He shakes his head and sighs. "Raven, are you okay with being alone?" I take off my mask, hiding my face with my hair. I wipe my tears and put it back on. I nod my head, yes. "I'm not completely alone, so yeah, I'm fine with it." I hear rustling behind me. Out of instinct, I sniff the air, and it's not Xander or Gabriel... I stand up and pull out my obsidian sword. "Show yourself," I command loudly, almost shouting. The person jumps up from the bushes. He has brown-black hair and green eyes. He has black werewolf ears and tail. "It-it can't be you..." The man hesitates. I see tears in his eyes. My head tilts to the left, my left ear flopping over a little. My swords' tip falls to the grass. "You don't recognize me, do you?" He questioned. Aaren looks about ready to beat the crap out of him. "Maybe this will jog your memory." He clears his throat and sings a quick song I recognize as my parents. My eyes widen and tear well up in the still pure one. "It can't be you... Can it?" I say, somewhat mocking his first words to me. "Your one-and-only, sis." I cry. I drop my sword and hug him tightly. He hugs back with all his strength. "I don't mean to ruin this beautiful moment, but who is this guy?" Aaren questions, jealousy seeping through his voice. "Oh! Aaren, this is my brother...

Victor..."
