The trial

Week passed quickly, I was still under the influence of getting into Yale so I forgot about all the other problems in my life. The group was okay, more or less, Joey and Brian still weren't speaking to each other, but I guess things like these take time. I was however happier then ever, Joey and me were back to being best friends, even though he still acted a little weird. I don't blame him, this wasn't an easy situation, but he did his best no to show it much. With Brian things were going better then ever, being a real couple really helped improve our relationship. We spent every minute together, all happy and in love. It wasn't 'till Wednesday night that I remembered that the trial was tomorrow. I slightly panicked inside, but didn't want to show it to anyone. This was also the first night I spent away from Brian since we got together, we slept every night either at my place or his, but tonight my parents thought I need a good night sleep alone.

''Audrey honey, wake up'' my father's voice snapped me from my dreams on Thursday morning. ''You need to get ready, we leave in an hour.''

I mumbled something in reply, got up as slowly as possible, and took a long shower. You see, being lawyers, my parents represented us all in court. Not all of us were going to testify, just me, Brian, Jaime, Joey and Tyler. Others were more like witnesses, but we were the main actors. I put on my new black pencil skirt, pink blouse and matching heels. I didn't wear much make-up, I remembered it was important to like a true, shaken up victim. I made my way down to the kitchen, grabbed a cup of coffee and some cereal and ate my breakfast quietly since mom and dad were going through some papers for the trial. Finally, half an hour later, we were at the Chicago court, meeting the others, ready to go inside. All parents came as well.

''You think you're gonna be okay? Speaking about it?'' Tyler asked me as we were walking into the court room.

''Yeah, I'm not shaken up anymore, although I am gonna pretend a little.''

''That's not gonna be a problem since you're such a good actor.''

''Oh shut up, I'm as innocent as there is.''

''You? Innocent? That's a first doll'' Brian teased me, hugging me around the waist from behind.

''I always was'' I replied with a smile.

''Why can't I be so confident?'' Jaime cut in.

''In a situation like this, it's better you're not'' I replied comforting her, ''it's better if you're all screwed up, the jury will like that more.''

With that we walked inside, took a seat in the front row, the five of us, the other's right behind us, and my parents in front, at the lawyers desk. And that's when they walked in. Robert Miles, Henry, Tom, 5 guys who's name I still didn't know but I recognized them, and finally, Jason. I swear my heart skipped a beat when I saw him, memories came to my head, but my expression didn't change. Hopefully, no one will ask me about the kissing part, and this will turn out well after all. And at last, the judge himself came in, judge Fred Hunter. So the trial begin.

The lawyer for the defendants was Carl Rosso, a very good and very expensive lawyer. He definitely knew what he was doing. He started calling us to the stand, and questioning us.

''I'd like to call Mr Joey Richter'' Mr Rosso said, and Joey went up to testify.

''Mr Richter, I'd like to begin with asking you to describe me the incident with you and Jason in the kitchen, the incident that led to Miss Davis being shoot.''

Joey started, describing everything, answering to many other questions as well. It wasn't easy watching my friend go through this, it was as if he was re-living it again. He did a good job however. My dad asked him a few questions next, very tricky questions but Joey, just like all of us, was prepared and answered them perfectly, so everything turned out fine for us.
