Now presenting: A life changing chapter.

"Erin, just calm down, okay! It's not the end of the world!" Jay soothed, caressing Erin's arm.

The team had been back for a few weeks from the retreat, and the kayaking trip only provided another bruise for Erin.

She and Jay had had no intimacy since the day at the Auburn, Erin's back covered in bruises from the rocks, causing her to end anything that started when they weren't at work.

She had spilled coffee all over her red shirt on their way to work, surviving on four hours of sleep. "Jay! Do you not see it? This is bad! I'm so exhausted from work, my back feels like crap, and I'm frustrated because we have had no time for each other and it's driving me insane!"

Jay remained silent until she was done with her rant. "You done now?"

Anger flickered in her eyes. "Am I done? I don't think you realize how damn frustrated I am! You just look good every single second, but my back hurts and I'm to tired to start anything!" She remained breathing heavy.

"Er, I understand you're tired and exhausted. Voight said after this case we get a two day break. Your back looks better everyday, so if we close the case today, then you may be good to go." He paused, going through the intersection. "And I'm still trying to sleep a night without the image of you dead on those rocks or me doing CPR on you flash into my dreams."

None of them had slept well since they had gotten back. Jay slept in the couch the past two nights with Erin tossing and turning, but Jay also didn't want her to see him cry when he had a nightmare seeing her dead.

"What do you mean, 'nightmares'?" She suddenly calmed down, all the anger disappearing

He sighed. Jay didn't tell Erin any of this because he feared she'd become scared and worried. "I've been having nightmares a lot, and well, they've been about you at the creek and in Hawaii. I've been distant because I miss you. I miss your love, and I miss us. With work lately, it's all been business and that's it. We come home and sleep, wake up and go to work. We've had no time to ourselves. I know your back has been killing you, but I miss us. I feel like we are running apart from each other."

Erin couldn't believe what she was hearing. "I'm sorry. I didn't know you were having nightmares about me, Jay. I wish you would have told me. I'm not going anywhere, I promise. And when this case closes," Her lips rolled into a grin. "Me, you, bedroom. All day."

Jay tilted his head. "I love you, Er. We're gonna get through this." He squeezed her hand. "Now, let's get to work."

They both walked into the Twenty-First, hand in hand, the early October breeze hitting their faces.

"Lindsay, Chuckles." The duo waved to Platt. "I'd drop the hands because Voight is in a bad mood. The lead you all had fell through, and he has been here since five looking for new leads."

They both groaned, quickly dropping their hands. "Fantastic."

"Sorry." Trudy felt bad for the detectives. They had been working on this case for three days.
