Spoilt

The next day, I woke because my phone was buzzing.

“Ugh, Shannon,” I groaned.

I lifted my phone out of my jacket, feeling the print it left as I slept on it. I had a text, yes, but it wasn’t from Shannon. It was from my old nemesis. Molly.

I opened the attachment, and it was a picture. A heart-breaking picture.

My boyfriend. Well, my ex.

And Molly.

Kissing.

I threw my phone down on the sofa and launched up, running for where I saw the toilets were yesterday. I was ill in the toilet bowl, and I even got some on my top. Not pretty.

As I sat up, I felt a hand on my back.

“Are you okay?” the voice asked me, but it wasn’t U-Kwon or Kyung, or even Zico. I spun around and saw that it was one of the boys I hadn’t spoke to a lot.

“P.O, right?”

“Yes,” he laughed, “nice to finally make your acquaintance. Even if it isn’t in a pleasant circumstance.”

“Umm yeah, sorry about that. It was a picture someone sent me.”

“That bad?” he asked, holding out a hand for me to take. I jumped up with his aid, then followed him as he strolled about.

“Just something my arch enemy sent me, including my ex.”

“If he’s your ex, then he missed the boat I’d say.” Pyo turned and winked at me, then arrived in a kitchen area.

“Myself and Kyung are going into town later, would you like to come along and replace your clothes?”

“No money, remember?”

“Famous, remember?”

I laughed. “Okay, sure. Thanks.”

“No problem. Infact, here comes trouble now”

“And annyeong hashimnikka to you too,” Kyung laughed, coming into the kitchen. He poured himself a glass of water in a tumbler, then made an identical one and offered it to me.

“Park Kyung, Jessika will be joining us later on our trip into town.”

“Hwansang!” he rejoiced, smiling at me.

“He means fantastic,” U-Kwon pitched in, walking into the kitchen as well. “Park Kyung, you forget she is English?”

“Apologies, Jessika.”

“No problem,” I laughed. “It is your country after all. Maybe I should be the one apologising for not learning Korean!”

“Perhaps we can buy you a Korean dictionary on our travels?” P.O suggested, then looked at his watch. “Speaking of, we should probably leave now.”

“Okay, let’s go.” I started towards the door, but U-Kwon stopped me and then darted off into his room. He came back a moment alter with a hoodie and flung it at me with a smile.

“Okay, now you can go,” he beamed. I slipped the hoodie on to keep me warm, then we all left for town.

I bought a few full outfits, a couple nice tops, three beautiful dresses, and about four pairs of shoes. And the boys, like gentlemen, carried my bags when I seemed to be struggling with them. I was generally fine, but if my back gave me some pain then they jumped in and saved the day.

We arrived back at the boys’ house at around mid-day, giving me time to settle in and rest on the sofa. I sat on something uncomfortable, then shifted my weight and saw that I had been sat on my phone. I must have left it here!

I unlocked it, only to find it was still loaded up on the picture I was sent earlier – my arch enemy and my ex. I leaned forward and put my head between my knees, not caring about the stabbing pain in my side when I did it. I felt like I would throw up.

“Agassi, are you okay?” U-Kwon worriedly asked me, coming over and resting his hand on my back.

“I’m just dandy,” I said sarcastically, sitting back against the sofa. I didn’t explain what was making me lurch, I just showed him the picture.

“Who is that?”

“My ex-boyfriend. And she had been making my life hell ever since she laid eyes on me.”

“Well she can’t get to you now, can she? I have you, safe and sound.”

U-Kwon opened his arms to initiate a hug, and I practically leapt into them. His hug was warm and comforting, and he drew circles on my back with his hands. I could feel tears rolling down my face, but for no one reason in particular. It just seemed to all fall on top of me at once.

“Ssh, you’re okay now,” he said calmly. “I’ll tell you what, I’m taking you out for lunch. There’s a nice place down the road. Perhaps it’ll cheer you up.”

“I can’t keep taking you guys for granted. You are already paying me too much attention, and I feel greedy!”

“Jessika. Look at it this way – since we are famous, the only people we get to associate with are either people with more power than us, or fans. You are the first person we have properly met since we got our fame who hasn’t treated us like we are their idols and so perfect. I can tell you now, my band members are going to treat you like a princess – they don’t get to do it often. And to me, you are the queen.” He winked at me and shot me a smile, and I swear it almost melted me.

“Do you honestly feel that way?”

“I wouldn’t lie to you.”

As promised, U-Kwon took me out for lunch. I got changed into something at least half decent, but kept his hoodie on. Don’t judge me, it was comfy.

He took us to a little café, where I ordered a coffee to start.

“So, what made you come to Korea?” U-Kwon asked me as we sat down.

“I wanted a new life. Too many bad memories in England. I took the money my parents left me and took off.”

“Are your parents still around?”

“Not exactly. They were very religious, so I’m kind of obliged to believe that they technically are still around somewhere, but not in body.”

“I’m very sorry.”

“Thanks. I’m okay though. Everyone think it’s strange how I’m not a complete wreck, but I dealt with it surprisingly well. I wasn’t a brat as a child, and we got along really well, but I still wasn’t torn up about it. I just sort of picked myself up and got on with it. Hence the quick move to Seoul – if I stayed there for a couple more weeks, I wouldn’t have wanted to go anywhere again. It was actually my friend’s idea.”

“Are there any siblings in the picture?”

“There was, but he went in the army and umm, well you can guess what happened next.”

“Oh. Again, I am very sorry. I must go into the army before I am 35 – it's compulsory for me.”

“I heard about that. It’s unfortunate. Hey, you never told me how old you are now.”

“I am 22 years old. Only four years your senior.”

“You say that like four years is a small age gap!”

“It is, compared to what it could be,” he laughed.

“True, true. Oh hey, that makes you my Oppa?”

“Yes! Well done,” he beamed at me. “Did you buy a Korean dictionary after all?”

“Yeah, I thought I should, since I’m in Korea and all.”

"I could be your personal translator!" he said excitedly, slurping his coffee.

"You're already my saviour and landlord," I laughed.

"Don't forget all-round-guardian," he said mockingly, drawing a halo above his head to make me laugh.
