A Rose For Nelly

Chapter 7

Nelly's POV

It had been a week since the interview and this morning was the board meeting
I had woken up to my alarm ringing and had just decided to sleep in a little since the meeting was not until 11 am
As I rolled over to my side and closed my eyes
I heard banging sounds, I reached for my pillow and pulled it over my head
When suddenly I realised it was my door
Someone was banging on my door at 7'am?
I reached for my robe tying it around my body as I made my way  downstairs
I unlocked the door and almost  immediately the door flung open
Annie marched inside screaming at the top of her voice
She was a model, an MBGN to be precise
The most recent of all my escapades, I had ended things with her a month ago when she had travelled to Geneva, or at least that was what I thought
So why was she here

"Annie" I said for lack of words
"Don't Annie me" she said
How could you? 
I was gone a whole month
One month Nelly
No call, no text nothing she stated
And when I call you, you don't pick or return my calls
Usually when I ignored girls they soon got the message and moved on
But it seemed Annie was having a hard time accepting it and I would have to spell it out to her
"When did you get back" I asked ignoring her accusations and gesturing her towards the sitting room
'Last night' she replied sitting down
'Why didn't you call me Nelly she asked
I get that you're a busy man
But even one call could have made all the difference she claimed
How about I make it up to you I suggested
'How?' she asked
'Leave that to me' I told her
Should we say tomorrow by seven? I asked
'Seven sounds good' she replied
Great! I have to get ready for work
I said kissing her on the cheek
As i escorted her out and shut the door
I made a mental note to take her name off the list of people I would be willing to see
It wasn't a very long list though
It comprised of just her, my mother and Richard
She had made me put her name there when we first started dating and I had regretted that action almost immediately but now I had simply had enough.

I made my way into the board room to find everyone else seated
"Good day gentlemen shall we begin" I said as I took my seat at the head of the long table
We had been in here for two hours now and we had finally come to the last agenda of the meeting
Richard spoke " Sir, we shall like to discuss your recommendations with regards to applicants for the position of financial consultant "
"There are just two of them" I said  and the boardroom went silent
I could tell what they were all thinking
But I didn't care if everyone else found it disturbing that out of over 200 applicants I could only find two competent people,
we had standards to maintain and I was doing just that.
Another hour of deliberation and we still had not come to a decision
For the most part the board had dismissed both recommended applicants
Just then I remembered my mother's words
And against my will, I uttered
there might be one other candidate I said
Drawing their attention back to me
Who? Sir Richard asked
A female I replied by name Rose Long- John
At the end of the meeting the board had decided and I was almost certain of the outcome of their actions.
