CHAPTER 1:
"Wow I can not believe I am going to go to school dressed like this." My friend Ally whined.
She lost a bet to her enemy Connie and now she has to wear 60's clothes for the rest of the week. If you ask me, she basically buried herself on her own with this one.
"Well one thing is for sure, I am NOT driving you to school this whole week and you do NOT know me!" I teased as I was finishing the final touches on my hair.
I haven't really paid much attention on how I appear to the outside world ever since my sophomore year of high school started. I guess I kind of thought that I wouldn't be stuck with these awfully fake people anymore once I did graduate and start a new life in college, (where it truly matters), so why care now?
With that being said, senior year is finally here and I must say... I have really been slacking. But hey, who was I going to impress all of these long and boring years of my life anyways? I've got my long brown hair, sweatpants, and baggy shirt to represent who I am, once again, for my last-first day of high school. With one last tightening of my pony-tail, I feel fully ready to take on the rest of my day.
"Ha-ha very funny Jade. If I'm going down, you're coming down with me." She smiled, as she examined herself one last time in the mirror. Unlike me, Ally tends to take time in her physical beauty. I don't see anything wrong in that, it's just not my thing.
I give her an apologetic look.
"Why did you make a bet with Connie in the first place, Ally? I don't mean this the wrong way but.. did you really believe that in the end you would beat her in getting Jason? I mean, it's not that you don't have a lot going for you but she is popular and everything and.. you catching my drift here?" I asked nervously.
"Yeah whatever, the whole thing was stupid anyway! At least it's only a week.. could you help me with these leg warmers, Jade?"
She laughed as I tried to get those suckers all the way up her leg, which by the way - is not as easy as it appears to be. Reflecting on Jason's decision, he really was dumb to pass up on a girl like Ally. For the most part, she did uphold the typical "blonde girl" stereotype with her long hair and blue eyes that I would kill to have. Not to mention, she does zero hours of exercise and that hour-glass frame is definitely telling a different story; talk about some great genetics.
"All right we ready to go?" I asked
As we were walking out of my room, Ally mumbled, "I don't know, I kinda like the idea of staying home.."
"Oh come on now it's only a week, you'll be fine and- oh my gosh, my camera! I almost forgot!" I shouted, as I ran back to my room to grab it.
"That was a close one!" I yelped
Ally rolled her eyes as if she had bigger fish to fry at the moment. "Oh no, Jade. What would you do without that camera, huh?" she asked while reaching for the door knob leading to the outside world that was about to embrace Ally's newest transformation.
"Bye dad!" I screamed as I walked out the door.
In the car, Ally kept stealing glances of herself in the mirror while in the passenger seat. I could tell she was really trying to put her brace face on. I wonder what it's like to always worry about how you are perceived by others? Must be exhausting.
I feel a wave of sympathy pass over me for her.
"Ally, I know you're worried about what reactions will come out of this but if you ask me, you look like a pretty hot 60's chick to me," I winked.
I tried to say serious, but ended up failing by my sudden burst of a laugh.
"Let's just get this day over with," she grinned.
Thankfully, she ignored the mirror for the rest of the ride there.
