Chapter 28:
My footsteps felt shaky walking up to the cells, I know he can't hurt me through them but something was there that would make me frightened. Just by hearing his name would make me shiver.
Jason was right beside me the whole way, until the officer said he couldn't come by the cell with me, family only.
He looked on planning to argue so I wrapped my hand around his, showing him I'll be alright.
Jason sighed and lifted my hand to his lips, planting a kiss on top. He let go and I started towards my fathers cell.
I saw my father sitting down a grey rusty bench, beside his toilet and single size bed. Pets have better cages then this. My father kept his gaze down on the floor never looking up to see his company. Surely he knew it was me, who else could it have been?
"You get 10 minutes." The officers voice echoed in the room around me, I nodded my head in agreement.
"So you've decided to come see your old man in the slammer huh?"
I squint my eyes toward him, seeing his head is still down as he speaks.
"I have questions, and I'm demanding answers."
He lifts his head up, showing his bruised face. He slowly gets up but stays put in his spot. He opens his mouth to speak but I stop him.
"Why did you hurt me?" I ask, trying to sound confident but my voice cracks.
He chuckles and keeps his eyes on me.
"I was disciplining you, sweetheart." He spits.
I don't notice how mad I am until I react from his words.
"Disciplining me?! What did I do that deserved to be beat up EVERYDAY?!" I yell, grabbing the cell bars.
He smirks and then shakes his head.
"You are just like your mother, Jade. Always wanting answers.. we all know what happens to the curious cat don't we?" His grin spreads all across his face, devious and evil.
My teeth and fist clench, I'm angry by his words, actions, and expressions. I'm overall angry with him. What is this to him a game??
"How did my Mother die?" I ask, glaring into his cold eyes.
He lifts his eyes to me and speaks,
"Like Mother like daughter right?"
My mind goes crazy, his words is a code. I know exactly what he means.
"You beat my Mother.." I mumble, still in confusion of all of the truth.
"Until one day I couldn't take it anymore, I sent her out of the house." I don't look up to him but I can sense his smile. He's enjoying this.. he's sick.
"Then one day on the news it showed that she got into a car accident and died, they thought all the bruises came from the accident, hah little did they know huh?" He's laughing now, waiting for my anger to push out.
"I don't even know who you are." I spit, tears escaping my eyes.
"I'm your father, and once I get out of here you'll soon regret of ever trying to stop me." He moves closer to the cell bars.
My glare gets tighter and my hatred gets stronger.
"You are nothing to me, we could've been a family together but all you ever wanted was your liquor. I hope you like your cell because I'm gonna make sure this is where you stay for the rest of your damn life." My words hit him like a bus as his expression quickly changes. Did he really think he would get out of jail that easily?
"If I rot in here, you will too." His words spit out like venom.
"And how are you going to do that? You're the one behind bars." I point, making his face flood with anger.
His face slowly went calm as he spoke gently, "But I want to be your father, Jade. Let me be your father, get me out of here and we'll start all over again.. trust me."
His words shock me but bounce off completely. I laugh,
"You were never fit to be a father, and never will be."
He jumps at the bars, clawing at my arm but I quickly pulled it away.
"I know your true colors, and I'm more than glad to get rid of you this way." I turn away as I hear my father yell.
"Your nothing to anybody! Good luck out in the world without me! You'll regret ever getting rid of me! Your life is nothing!"
I turn around and face my father for the last time.
"My life has finally begun now that I've gotten the people that care about me in my life, and the ones I don't need are forever out of reach."
His face drops but his hands keep the grasp on the bar.
"You are a horrible daughter." He sneers.
"I'm not your daughter, I'm just the girl you beat up."
"I'm sorry.. Just get- his voice cracks- GET ME OUT OF HERE NOW."
I stroke my hand through my hair,
"I know it'll be hard for you, with no liquor to drink down or someone to beat up in your free time.. maybe prison will teach you a thing or 2."
I turn away and head out the door remembering the last glimpse of my father that I'll remember for all the years he will spend in there.
