"Serpents," Barnes said with disgust as he eyes the dark side of the forest warily "Of course there would be serpents. Why not something as simple as I don't know, bunnies? Or if you must go with creepy why not bats? Why must it be serpents past?"
Sensi raised an eyebrow.
"Barns had a barrel of snakes thrown at him when he was a child, and then proceeded to fall into a pit of them when we were young"
Mr Spade and Sensi nodded with understanding as a pitying look entered their eyes.
Barns kicked a rock in sanger as he continued to mutter to himself, trudging on reluctantly, only to halt as he is stopped.
Shadow had grasped his hand, a wide smile on her lips. Barnes glanced down up her with surprise but did not let go. Reluctantly, he returned the smile as she held on tight as aims of reassurance.
Adorable... I thought as he lifted her onto his shoulders.
"We should hurry, I want to be out of serpents path before nightfall," Sensei said, as we walked to catch up.
"Now, now no need to be so fast," Mr Jack said as he followed not far behind him.
Sensei threw him a glare over his shoulder. But like the many before, they had no effect.
I sighed.
"What is it?" Barnes said, his eyes still scanning our surroundings as he drew closer to me.
I smirked slightly, but looked away, hoping he doesn't notice.
It's strange seeing this petrified side of Barnes. The very same Barnes who once jumped of a dragon without a parachute or safety precautions fifty feet of the ground, and then fought said dragon barehanded, to save me from some bullies. The same Barnes who made a giant tumble and cry since he had taken my sword, without thought, consequence or worry.
"Nothing," I said simply as I walked as a leisured pace alongside him.
"No, not nothing" he said, meeting my gaze finally, with curiosity.
