----
The week passed without any interaction between Crutchie and (Y/N). Neither of them really noticed, considering they didn't know eachother well enough to care. So, things went by as normal again.
So, sunday rolled around again. (Y/N) went to her usual routine. Get dressed, grab some coffee from the nuns at the church, and go to her spot in the park to people-watch.
So far, she was only around 50% done with her routine. She had just grabbed her coffee from her favorite nun, Sister Beatrice, who wasn't much older then she.
Taking her coffee with a firm grip and giving Lilac a scratch on the head, the girl and her dog went down the road, which was full of people scrambling to church. Taking a sip of her coffee every ten seconds or so to wake her up.
She was just crossing onto main street when somebody hobbled up next to her and tapped her shoulder.
"Do you need someth-" She started, only to be shushed by the person - who she now recognized as the boy from the lodging center she had spoken to a few times.
"Shh. Delancy's on my trail. Yous gotta help." He said, anxiety lacing his voice.
(Y/N) sighed. She didn't feel like wasting her sunday helping this guy, but she couldn't just leave him to be caught by the Delancy's. She knew that feeling all too well, and it wasn't exactly pleasant.
"Fine, but you owe me, crutch." She murmured to him, not looking in his direction as not to be seen with him by the Delancy's.
"My name's Crutchie!" He exclaimed, turning a few heads. (Y/N) cringed, the Delancy's would definitely find them if he kept saying things so loud. Even in a big city, being louder then a crowd is easy to do if you're dumb enough.
"Shh! You're gonna cause a scene!" (Y/N) scolded, her voice a low whisper. Crutchie nodded, understanding. Weather or not this girl got his name right didn't matter in the moment - right now they needed to avoid the Delancy freaks.
(Y/N) whipped her head around, scratching behind Lilac's ear as she walked. She had no clue what to do and had to figure out what she would do, or both her and Crutchie were doomed.
It was not the best time for Lilac to choose to run after a stray cat, in (Y/N)'s eyes. The mocha dog zipped off suddenly, startling (Y/N) out of her boots.
"Lilac!" She shouted, attempting to get the dog's attention. She was now running to the dog, Crutchie trying his best to keep up, and not doing too bad either.
So, the two of them dashed through the streets, following Lilac the best they could. Lilac, though, didn't seem to be chasing after the cat anymore. No, Lilac was now running out of pure spite. Could a dog even have spite? Who knows.
___
Crutchie and (Y/N) alike were growing tired. They had been chasing this dog for a solid fifteen minutes, and it was exhausting. When they finally caught the dog in an alley, they realized something.
Lilac had lead them away from Delancy's.
Crutchie and (Y/N) seemed to have the realization at the same time. (Y/N), to show her gratitude to Lilac, pet her.
"Good girl Lilac!" She praised.
"Er.. ya got a nice dog.." Crutchie said, awkwardly. He didn't exactly have practice with this type of conversation. It wasn't every day a dog saved him from the Delancy brothers.
"I know." (Y/N) replied, beaming. She had never been prouder of Lilac.
____
An hour or so had passed since Lilac had lead them to the alleyway. Crutchie had decided to stay with (Y/N) solely in fear the Delancy's would come after him again had he be alone. And so, the two talked.
Crutchie had taken in things about the girl. He noticed that she was rather pretty, but she wasn't exactly his type.
They had fun conversations as if they were old friends.
Hands in her pocket, (Y/N) would tell Crutchie jokes, to which Crutchie would laugh. The girl, for being an antisocial bum, was funny.
"So, (Y/N), lemme ask you somethin," Crutchie started.
(Y/N) smirked, in an un-menacing way. "Ask away."
"How come ya doing has the accent the other boys got? You got some type of educatin'?"
(Y/N) shrugged. "In honesty, I haven't a clue. I never got better then a preschool education."
Crutchie nodded, understanding. "Yous is like the other boys an' I, without an education an' whatnot. Except' maybe Jack's friend Davey."
"Tell me, how the hell did you end up being friends with a skirt-chasing, Santa Fe boy like Jack Kelly?" (Y/N) asked, humour in her voice. Crutchie chuckled before replying.
"Ay, he ain't so bad once you get to know 'em." Crutchie replied.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes. "Sure Crutchie. Its not like they say that every single damn time."
Crutchie laughed. This girl had a very good point - every boy would say they weren't so bad once you knew them, and sadly, it wasn't often that way.
Before they could finish their conversation, they arrived at the lodging house.
"Huh, guess we're here." (Y/N) said, slightly disappointed. She was having a good time with this guy.
"Suppose we's are. Don't look so glum, though, goilie. We can 'ang out 'nother time." He said, his accent dripping through his voice.
(Y/N) nodded. "Most certainly. Look, I have to run a few errands with Lilac, but ill see you around!"
She then dashed off, her (H/C) hair flying behind her and the dog at her feet.
Crutchie watched as she ran off. She was something. Not the antisocial villian he once thought of her as at all.
A strong hand rested itself on his shoulder. He looked over to see his buddy, Jack.
"Whatcha lookin' at, Crutchie?" Jack asked, an eyebrow raised.
(Y/N) wasn't anywhere in sight, so Crutchie wouldn't be able to explain without sounding like a liar. A liar who lied about talking to pretty girls who didn't talk to anybody in the lodging house.
____
(Y/N) dashed through the streets. How could she have gotten so off task with talking to Crutchie that she forgot to do her errands earlier?
She knew that boy was trouble, what with his gimp leg and seemingly friendly demeanor. A demeanor that got her off task efficiently.
She grumbled as she went through with her tasks.
