three.
Tick.
Tock
Tick.
Tock.
...
I sulked in silence, staring at the clock as I awaited for the sound of the bell.
I had managed to not fall asleep in class, which was an acheivement, especially for me.
Honestly, the amount of self control it takes.
As I looked around the class, I could see that the same could not be said for the others.
"- as the first british explorer to discover what we now call as Australia, Captain Cook has done a great amount to help become what the world is today." Mrs Wiggins continued to drone loudly in a monotonic voice, which, nevertheless, sounded like a fucking lullaby in my ears.
I felt my eyelids become heavier.
No. Alyssa. Don't. Fall. Asleep.
I must have done some pretty unforgivable things in my past life to be punished like this.
And I guess I finally understand how those high school dropouts probably felt like. Bored, and tired to name a few. And let's not forget about annoyed, shall we.
I'm not saying I want to be one of them though, don't get me wrong. Melissa would have my life before that thought ever passes through my head. She was a strict one, my aunt. But let's be honest here. At the end of the day, which parent doesn't want their child to come home, with a big red A+ stamped on their exam papers?
I felt myself the urge to close my eyes becoming even bigger. The soft snores radiating the classroom didn't help either.
Don't fall asleep. I could feel my Melissa's usual distasteful voice nagging in my head. That was enough to keep me awake, as I felt my eyes open wider than ever.
Thankfully, I didn't have to keep at this state for long, as I soon heard the bell ring.
Thank you, God. I owe you one.
As I grabbed my bag, and headed towards the door, I found my friend Talia waiting impatiently for me.
"Hey Tata." I said grinning, as she enveloped me into a tight hug.
"Hey Al! I missed you so much." She squealed, unwrapping her arms around me.
"But you just saw me yesterday." I rolled my eyes teasingly. "And don't call me Al. It makes me sound like a boy." I scrunched up my face.
"But still! Can't I just miss my best friend? Even if I just saw her yesterday." She pouted. "And nah. I like annoying you."
I stuck my tongue out childlishly, before playfully punching her as we headed towards the back of the canteen, where the rest of our friends were sat.
Reaching our table, I could hear Lucas painfully, and out of tuney covering 'Hello' by Adele. While the others - Abigail, and Evalyn - laughing hysterically. Riley, another one of my friends, had turned bright red, with the attention of the whole cafeteria directed towards out table.
"Hey guys." I said smiling, dropping my bag down, as Talia and I took a seat next to each other. Lucas stopped the singing. "Heya."
The others nodded at us, as they couldn't speak, their mouth full of food.
"Thank god you guys came. Otherwise I don't know if Lucas would've stopped." Evalyn says, swallowing the last of her food.
"You're welcome." Talia said, "And to show your thanks, icecream is on you today."
"Fine." Eva grunted, but nonetheless agreed.
"Hey! Don't act you didn't like my singing, it was AMAZING. Seriously, even Selena Gomez would be jealous." The wanna be singer protested childlishly.
"Oh yeah, totally. And Selena Gomez can't sing."
"She totally can! Are you deaf?" Abigail put her hands on her heart dramatically.
"I second that." Riley agreed. "You must have been dropped on the head when you were a baby." She said, pretending to think.
Riley and Abigail high fived, as Evalyn pouted. "Shut up."
"Don't worry, RiRi and Gail or just bullies." Lucas cooed. I've always wondered if there's something going on through the occasionals stares and their unbreakable bond between them. They'd be stupid not to see that they're perfect for each other.
"Okey, that's enough lovey dovey stuff for one day." Abi announced, clapping her hands. "On another topic, who wants my nutella sandwhich?"
"Me." Talia instantly reached out.
"Dude you've used the same prank last year. It's vegemite sandwhich. And it shouldn't be a conicidence that you're acting so nice on April Fool's day. You never share your nutella sandwhiches," I said, fighting a smile. Leave it for Abi to use the same prank two years in a row.
Talia retracted her hand. "Meanie."
Abi shrugged, giggling. "You still fell for it."
I, like the others all continued laughing - that is, until Abi stuffed her vegemite sandwhich in my mouth.
Ew.
