Great. I had a class specially assigned to help me fly and it looked like torture. You were taken to the top of this really tall structure and told to jump off into a pool of this cloud like magic stuff the headmaster had created. It caught who ever was falling if they failed to fly, safe and easy right?
Well, besides the fact that I'm terrified of heights, Mark and his friends were here and Mr. Better than the rest was helping coach the class since he could fly. Great, just great. I bet he's gonna push me.
"Next!" The teacher called. Shit! that was me! I was taken to the top of the structure a million miles from land and gulped. At least I'm last up so I can take as long as I want, right?
"Oh, Jack wasn't it? Mark's roommate?" The male slightly in front of me asked and I nodded. "Oh yeah, you're queasy of heights. Most newbies are when it comes to flying." (I wish I could fly. Or at least had wings)
"Please stop," I mumbled, looking over the edge of the structure at the swirling light far bellow.
"I'm just messing with you kid. It's not that far if you think about it," he tried to reassure.
"Well I don't entirely want to think about it," I snapped slightly. Fuck, I need to control my tongue.
"Jeez! Just tryna help. Fuck you then," He said bitterly before shoving me off the edge. I knew he was going to push me!
The ground came towards me a lot faster than I had imagined and the fear of the swirling light overtook my fear of heights; so soon enough I was hovering about the light as it reached towards me. I panicked slightly and flew away from it onto solid ground, backing away into someone.
"Oh my god Jack you did it!" Mark's cheerful voice filled my ears. I felt my heart do that weird thing again and turned to him with a smile.
"I-I guess," I said, fearfully glancing at the light magic. I can't risk touching it since my magic is literally the darkest magic can get. I don't know what might happen.
"Yay! Good on you kid!" Tyler said, slowly clapping as he walked towards us. I don't know what happened but my temper snapped. I wanted to beat this guys head in but I couldn't do that. I could yell though.
"YOU FUCKING ASS HOLE! WHY THE FUCK DID YOU PUSH ME!" I screamed, making everyone turn to us in shock. I guess I'd become the silent person in the class this past week.
"I was trying to help you!" He retorted but it didn't help his situation.
"So you pushed me?!" I growled, trying not to let others hear as much.
"You did what?" Mark asked, also sounding angry. "You know that isn't allowed." Mark was clearly keeping his temper under control as his voice remained calm and steady but I felt like strangling this dude. He knew I was afraid of heights!
"I'm pretty sure the Headmaster isn't going to kick one of her best students," Tyler said, rolling his eyes.
"No. But I can certainly ban them from competing in the tournaments coming up," a females voice came from behind us. I felt my chest tightened as my eyes fell upon its owner. She was intimidating yet sweet in a way.
"What?" Everyone said in the group, I remained silent though. What's with this tournament thing they keep talking about?
"You can't pull him! We need him for the team competitions," Mark said desperately.
"He needs to learn how to follow rules. You guys aren't above them no matter how powerful you are. Now to my office Tyler, I want a talk with you. I'm sure you can find a substitute for Tyler's absence. Your friend here appears fairly skilled with flight." I felt my face flush as everyone turned to me.
"W-what?" I stuttered out. How could she tell?
"I've been teaching for a while and watching as people learn a new skill is something I like greatly. But something about you makes me feel you'll learn pretty quickly. Mark, teach him for me would you." And with that her and Tyler left.
I seemed to find the floor more interesting than faces because my eyes were staring at it intensely. How did she see that? I simply pulled up and flew away from the magic. No big deal right?
"Jack? Helloooo?" Mark was calling me and I snapped out of my trance.
"Hah? What?" I said, shaking my head to focus and looked up at Mark.
"Did you hear anything I just said?" He asked. I shook my head, earning a sigh from him. "I asked if you were willing to join our team if I trained you."
I thought it over in my head. I mean, it was only fair if I joined them since my inability to hold my tongue did get one of their members banned from the tournaments. But that risks me getting caught...
"I'm not sure. I'm not very good...," I trailed off as Mark placed a hand on my shoulder, sending tingles down my arm. Seriously, what's with that?
"I will teach you. I'm really good at it and I can tell you what you need to do in it. Maybe we can help you find your other powers," Mark said, hesitating near the end. He knew something about my powers...
"O-okay. I'll help. It's the least I can do for getting Tyler banned," I mumbled. This might not be a good idea but it might also get me into that control room.
"Don't worry about him. He knew he's not meant to push people so you did nothing," Mark assured and I smiled a guilty smile.
"I may have provoked him a tiny bit but not much," I said honestly. He chuckled and grabbed my arm.
"Come on, let's go practice in private. People are staring," he said as suddenly we weren't in school grounds any more...
